They are not for everyone, but they are selling a boatload of them.

Mike, let me know how he does with rear tires. The Spyders run through them quick if you run it hard; which is the only way to have fun. I figured the Slingshot would also burn through them.

Stock Spyder tires are very soft for one-wheel traction and to help reduce slipping. I assumed the Slingshot's stock rear is similar.

Just wondering and would like to know if you can remember to find out.

Polaris petitioned the State of Missouri to license the Slingshots as automobiles. They were hoping to get the mandatory helmet rule lifted so it would help sales. State refused citing no airbags and adequate roll over protection, so they are licensed as motorcycles. That is the only similarity they have to a motorcycle. They don't feel, ride or handle like a motorcycle. They are fun though in a different kind of way. Definitely a head turner too.

You are right about that Greg, Sparky got the last red one in the Twin Cities metro area. I'll let you know about the rear tire when I have some info.

I would think a company building such vehicles would never want them listed as a car. More than air bags at stake. Ride hight, impact crash ratings, and a multitude of other safety tests and regulations that motorcycles are exempt from. Compling with them all if they even could would drive the price up considerably hindering sales more than wearing a helmet.

Well, apparently Polaris wanted them to be automobiles. They petitioned all fifty states and several of them allowed it and the most did not. Here is the list for your reading pleasure.
