Designing my own quick detach rack

Since the Kawi KQR is severely over priced. Made a rough design out of cardboard, transfered that to masonite for a rigid mockup, then will use the masonite as a template to plasma cut out of steel and weld it all together.

Good for you! I also like making as much stuff as I can, rather than buying it. Most times its a lot better quality when your done.

I would love a chrome sissybar / luggage rack that was attractive (didn't look 'homemade') as an alternative to Kawasaki's with their outrageous price. I really don't even care about quick release!

Sometimes homemade is a good thing. I got my dealer to "throw in" the KQR backrest for my Vaquero but spent big money for a Nomad trunk kit and modified it to fit the KQR system and now I have a quick release tour pack. The wife loves it and I can haul more stuff. The best part is I can release it and it's back to a Vaquero

Nice setup Duff. Hopefully you can post an updated video when you get it finished.

Count me in on getting to see the final product! You using stainless, or plan on plating/painting it?

That's really cool! I actually have an HD tour pak (that I had mounted on my last bike). I'd love to be able to use it in a quick-release fashion.

CBO looks like you have the best setup.....clever idea glad it works. That KQR backrest and rack set me back altogether brackets and all, for around 530.00 but because I found all of it on Ebay last year and save about 120 bones. Sturdy stuff works well, looks great, my huge T-Bags tour pack fits on real well.
