Surging @ idle

Go an 06 that surges at idle. Anybody have any idea why? The Stealer just phoned me to tell me the idle was set too high? They are the one's who set it! Claim my Tach is a piece of S---t! Of course it's not a Kawasaki Tach. It was reading 1000 RPM - surging from 1000 - 1200 ish! They claim all they did was turn the RPM down to 950 and all is well? Now I'm no Rocket Scientist but I'ma having a hard time believin that 50 RPM will cause the thing to surge? Anyone here know what their 1600's are idling at?
Also, they said just don't fill the tank over the bottom of the cup! Friend showed up last night with a 07 and he fills his up almost to the top and his don't do nothing??? WTF! That's well over a litre more fuel than I can fit in - on a trip that could be the difference between walking or riding up to a pump. ???

I believe the idle should be 900 to 1000rpm. I fill my 05 to within an inch of the top of the gas tank and no issues.

idle i think is 950 rpm although i turned my down to about 750 by my ear and it will surge at slow steady speed say about 10-15 mph steady, anything else it runs fine. i wouldnt rec'd filling any higher than the plate.

When your idle is set too high you run into a situation where the TPS is at a point of confusion that the motor is running higher than normal and the ECU is confusing itself as to adjusting the mixture as if the throttle is manually being turned.

Before adjusting my TPS I had to turn the idle high so that it would die on me shifting gears or idling at a light. This higher idle was very erratic sounding. After adjusting my TPS I turned the idle down to 850 and I can let the clutch out with no throttle and take off. This idle is very nice now.

These are the little quirks your going to find out about your Nomad.

yea, but you gotta love em...Mines about half-way to where I want it to be, which is where it should have been when it was delivered!! Oh well, the basic platform was what i wanted.

I'd like it to run on regular, have a more aerodynamic clear fairing, better seat, super long lasting tires and a little more poop to the motor all the while returning over 50mpg's.

That's not too much to ask right??? LOL

Sometimes a leaking vacumm hose will cause that problem, check to see that all the hoses are connected to the throttle body and air filter, or are cracked and leaking.

OK BD, Tell me how to set my idle up like yours so I can let out my clutch with no throttle and take off. My bike has a tendency at slow speeds to give a little hesitation or a jerk when I give it a little throttle as in a turn and it is not a very smooth acceleration. Would that be because my idle is set too low?

I've adjusted my TPS or throttle position sensor located on the back of the injectors from a value of 4.40 to 4.43 wide open. I have a resistor in line with the water temp as well as the air temp sensor.

These adjustements have allowed my bike to be a little bit richer on start up and progressively more as the motor and outside air start to heat up. I get by on mid grade on warm days with just an occassional hint of ping.

The TPS adjustment is on this web site. http://www.gadgetjq.com/tps_adjust.htm

I think opening the intake was the biggest factor in me getting rid of that slight hesitation...straight stock intake and most get that sluggish low end throttle.

My black 2007 has 2400 miles and always has had the sluggish, little hesitation, at low end throttle. You have got my interest. I guess I need to read up to see what is "opening the intake" and learn to adjust the TPS.

car tire mileage. But not necessarily car tires themselves.

Well I was wanting to Know brands and the like.. At this instant I an seeking a car rear because no mc tires are super long lasting that I am aware of. That ft stone is going too, so it get a little pricey.

I'ld be happy with 20,000 miles on a tire.
