New VT law no smoking in car with kids

I guess there's a new VT law that doesn't allow cigarette smoking in your own car while there is a child in the car that is under 8 years old. Not so good for those of us that smoke. Is this just VT or do other states have similar laws.

I have heard it talked about for a while but I dont think they have passed it here in Alabama yet. I know I am prejudiced since I am non smoker but I like the idea. 2nd hand smoke is a nasty thing for adults, much less children. Not trying to tell anyone what they can and cant do in their own homes for sure. Your right to smoke is just as important as my right not to, but the kids cant decide for their own. My father was a chain smoker for 30 years and as a kid I hated riding anywhere with him. Smoke and ashes flying around the car as he drove with the window cracked. Ironically he quit after his heart attack 5 years ago and the smell of smoke makes him sick now.

Here in California it prohibits smoking in cars with minors below the age of 18.

I do not think that there is a law in MN prohibiting people from smoking in the car when there are children present. Personally I think submitting a child to the effects of second hand smoke is child abuse and should be treated as such!

We all know the health complications that can arise from smoking and second hand smoke. I asked what other states have such a law not opinions on smoking.

Nevada does not have a Law like this. I am curious though. Does VT have Law prohibiting smoking in your home if young children are present. I would think the car exchanges more air than a house in the winter. Time in the car is very short compared to the time inside a house. I remember growing up in a house with two smokers and watching TV through the blue haze all winter. However, in all fairness I can't point to any ill effects from it.

Did not offer an opinion on smoking, offered an opinion on child abuse.

They haven't yet in Missouri, although just as the "we aren't taking you right to smoke away from you" tactics that were used when they originally wanted to have separated smoking sections in restaurants awhile back..... they have not stopped progressing and escalation the "We aren't taking your right, just trying to make sure you cant" almost to the point of open hunting season on smokers.

Wonder if no smoking in the car is just cigarettes or includes medicinal marijuana?
Seems like the ones most vocal about smoking are the ones most vocal about legalizing weed.... doesn't make much sense but then contolling other people doesn't either.

Opinion since someone mentioned how hard second hand smoke is on kids.... maybe I'm an exception, I grew up in a house where both my parents smoked (chain), both my aunt and uncle smoked...... getting ready to turn 60 and doesn't seemed to have hurt me much if at all growing up in the evil self destructive environment.

The smoking and drinking are 2 subjects that should never be discussed. At least not until you've had a few drinks.

The short answer to that ? is NO. When we were young the effects of nicotine and second hand smoke were not fully understood. Now that those effects ARE fully understood it is a totally different situation. I can only conclude that you see nothing wrong with subjecting a baby to second hand smoke...........unbelievable.

You don't know me and your conclusion is definitely wrong. I don't smoke in other people's cars, homes, boats, or whatever. I don't smoke in my house. Smoking is a habit that I picked up and shouldn't have. Since I do decide to smoke I do make sure that it's not bothering people that I'm around or with. I have been asked by people to go somewhere else and smoke and have happily obliged even though I could have kicked their ass and told them to go elsewhere.

In the future you should really understand a person before you jump to conclusions.

It is not a state law in Arkansas. But there are cities that have laws against it.
