Does anyone have a RDL seat on a Vaquero?
I can't find any images of a Russell DL seat on a vaquero, and before I make any decisions, I am curious what people have done regarding a passenger or a solo seat.
I am sure I want a solo seat for the Vaquero with a drivers backrest. Not sure what this would look like in a RDL. Corbins that I have sat on were very hard, and I want to check out all the options before i spend the coin on anything. Any info/pics are appreciated! Thanks, Dave

I cannot comment on the RDL but I bought a two up Mustang seat brand new and it has been a tough break in for me. I have had Corbins that after the break in they were great. The Mustang seat is still a little uncomfortable for the wife after a few hours.

I had a Saddlemen seat on my Suzuki 1500 Intruder that was a gel seat that I was never really happy with. In fact I ended up going back to the stock seat with a driver backrest and it was 10x better I think. Maybe a corbin wouldn't be bad after break in, but as a big guy, it seems like Corbins are made for a skinnier booty than mine.

Not exactly a lot of help........I e-mailed RDL and asked if they had any pics of a vaquero and I got this:
Hello, I am sorry but the only pictures we have of our seats is in the gallery section of our website. We build our custom day-long touring saddles using your stock seat and we rely on our customers to submit pictures. Thank you, Kim I would at least like to know if they have done a Vaquero seat??

I don't have a Vaquero but had a Russell on my Nomad and now on my Voyager. Kim is easy to work with, they didn't have any pictures of Voyagers either. Give here a call and have a conversation with her, I'll bet they have already done what you want to do.

Wow, can't believe there are folks out there that don't like Mustang seats. You'll never "break them in" because they aren't designed for softness - the seat is designed to spread the load (so to speak) evenly across the entire seat. All a stock seat does is flatten out against the frame. That's where you get the discomfort. I've ridden as long as 11 hours in the saddle and never had a complaint and I'm 240 lb. Go figure.

I also have the mustang seat on my Vaq and love it. Had it on my previous 900 as well and could not have been happier. Guess to each his own.

There is nothing like in person service to get exactly what you want

If I were close so would I! Anyone know of a custom seat maker in Michigan/Ohio?
Dave

Proximity to the saddle maker.
Quote:
My legs are kinda short. I'm 5'8". I wanted to move forward just a little in the saddle so I had them make the seat with a bucket support which meant they had to move the back rest pocket forward. They had to rework the seat pan to accomplish this. So I was not able to take the seat home the same day. I had arrived at their site in early afternoon. I also notice I sat a tad higher when it was all done. But I am very satisfied with the results. It was all for one flat price. I don't see where their product suffers from quality as I have watched them being made. There was 8 or so bikes in for saddles each time I was there. Have you had any injuries to your back, tailbone, or legs. The were working with one customer who had been in an accident so they could make the seat for his needs. All in all they try to get the best fit for your comfort.

I am trying to decide if I want to ride to Hollister or Anderson. I am at the moment leaning towards Hollister and a Corbin seat only because I can get the integrated back rest for the wife. Going to Anderson and having a Rick Mayer seat built would mean I would have to have a backrest mounted on the rear for the wife I am assuming since a Rick Mayer seat uses the stock pan..... sigh what to do... if only I could afford both.... one for when I have my wife and the other built for the solo stuff!!!!! Come on lottery!!! Oh wait I need to buy tickets first.

I was even considering trying the Kawasaki OEM solo gel seat for the price (somewhere around $250 I think?). I don't know if anyone has went that route though. Also, I have been thinking that my first course of action may be to get the air-hawk for my ride down south for the SEVROC ride (to Maggie Valley from Michigan will be around a 1500 ride just to/from), and figuring it out later.

I am leaning toward a Rick Mayer Seat
The vinyl Basketweave seat looks real nice and is very reasonable No I haven't seen one for a vaq. Just in general,,
