The Dragon

Just joined today, I live in Western N.C. about five miles from Deal's Gap and the Dragon. Know all the local info if anyone plans a trip to God's country.

The Dragon sounds like an awesome road. I will have to put it on my list of things to do.

Welcome.....check out the thread for the first ever Eastern Kawanow rally.....hope you can come....being from west tn I might hook up with you and let you lead me thru the Dragon.... either on the way to or from the rally.....have not done it yet. Would love to go with someone familiar with it.

Also...we're planning on stopping by the Honda Hoot.....don't know how far dragon area is from Knoxville area.

Welcome jmb...glad to have another North Carolinian here...I think that makes ??? 3 ??? (you, kawgirl, and me). What a great area you are in for riding...Its about 3 or so hours for me to get over there from Greensboro to the GOOD roads. There are so many roads around there that I like as much or more than the dragon its hard to pick a favorite.......

Welcome aboard jmb. Grab a cold one outta the cooler in the corner and settle in. The list of KawaNauts envious of your location is sure to be a long one. I was dreaming of that ride even before I bought my bike.

Glad to see some posts on the Dragon, great road but lot's of sport bikes. I started riding the Dragon over thirty years ago before it was the Dragon. It was just 129 South then, and Deals gap resort was called Crafton's Motel. You could ride all day and hardly ever see a car. I don't ride there much anymore the traffic is to intense. Been several killed there don't want to be an innocent victim.

unwind2, It's better to ride there in the off season, The state patrol has had a major crackdown the last couple of months, guess people are getting tired of risking an accident trying to get to Knoxville, so I would say you could make it pretty well right now. There are some other really good roads here, Cherohala Skyway, Foothills Parkway, Blueridge Parkway, Nantahala Gorge just to mention a very few. All these are nice smooth pavement gentle curves, great rides, enjoy
