Texas Hill Country Tour for 2013... will be in 2014
Well, I wasn't going to plan a Texas Hill Country trip for this year, but there have been a few that have expressed an interest.
If this trip becomes a reality, I don't want it to interfere with any other planned trips or Rally's, such as the Caddo Valley Tour in Arkansas, the National Rally in Estes Park, CO. in June nor the Antler's Rally in October. If you are interested in touring the Texas Hill Country, post up here and let me know if Spring or Fall is your preference. Depending on the number that are interested, I'll try to make plans from there.

I haven't ridden there at all and I'd really like too. Just my schedule is kinda full so I think I'll just lay back and watch where this goes. I'll attend if I can, but I'm not sure enough to try to sway the dates.
Fall would probably be best for me though. Probably 900 degrees in the shade down there like it is up here then?

Know what you mean Chuck. I've got a good number of trips planned for 2013. I'm still trying to figure out how to pay for it all.
Just as an FYI to everyone... for the Spring, April or May is the best time to go (especially when the bluebonnets are blooming, they usually are out in full bloom for a 2 week period...hard to time out right).... for the Fall, late September through early November. When I go, it's usually at the end of October.

I'd love to do this ride sometime, but I don't think I could swing it this year.

I can do it any time you schedule it. Would love to do it this year. Fall would probably be better for me but I would make it happen whenever you schedule it. Lets just make sure we do it when it has the potential of being well attended. I would love to do it in April when the blue Bonnets are in bloom. If that is too tight maybe we should plan it for next year when we don't have the national... Cause we're riding to Estes BABY!

The hill country is not the rocky mountains, but there really are hills, nice scenery, and twisties. So twisty, the three best roads are called the "twisted sisters" and are in high demand for motorcycles and sport car clubs.
Trip, we put church/family obligations high on our list. But if we are available when you do another hill country ride, we would certainly try to go. Had a great time last time we met you down there. Well all except when we totaled the car, trailer, and motorcycle on the way home. :) |

Dabull, if you google map of the Texas Hill country, you will get a lot of options, but brouse through them to find your favorite format and pull it up. It's not one place but a region of Texas basicly west of I-35 marked by short mesquite trees, cactus, Lots of rock, and Hilly, curvy roads. It's kind of arid, but shows a lot of greenery. Great place to ride, partly because of the roads, but also the climate, the places and things to see and do and of course, the people. Hard to find a more accomodating and friendly bunch of folks. You got every thing from tourist traps, upscale shopping, to little known and out of the way hide-outs. If you take the missus through Fredericksburg, she's gonna hate you for not bringing the pickup.

DaBull,
I travel to the Texas Hill Country an average of once a year. I base out of Leakey, Texas (pronounced "Lay-kee") which is about 90 miles West of San Antonio. Some of the towns located in the Hill Country are Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Medina and Utopia. The real beauty of the THC is it's curvey roads and switchbacks (called the Twisted Sisters, consists of Ranch Road 337, 336 and 335) and the natural beauty of the area, especially during the Spring. Leakey sits right in the middle of the Twisted Sisters. I usually stay at the D'Rose Inn, which is a motel specifically for motorcyclists. http://www.droseinn.com In April of 2010, a bunch of us from what was then, KawaNOW, met in Leakey and rode the Hill Country for several days. We had a blast. We'll do it again in the Spring of 2014. http://www.hilliard.ws/hc2010/hc2010.htm Trip
