The 1600 is better then 1500 -- 1700??

Reasons 1600 is better then 1500:

-- displaces 1552cc instead 1470cc, the extra cubes arriving via a 5mm-longer stroke

-- 16-bit ECU and a fuel injection system (Most 1500's were Carbs)

-- dual 36mm throttle bodies with four nozzles in each

-- extended wheelbase

-- re-calibrated suspension

-- reworked fork offset (read: less trail) to lighten steering

-- new windshield on the 1600

-- moved the turn-up at the rear farther forward and narrowed the saddle's nose

-- passengers get a bit more space front-to-rear

-- 1600 also brings a nice, wide passenger backrest and sturdy hand-hold

-- increased fuel capacity by a bit more 4.2 gallons to 5.3 gallons

-- tank also has a new shape and a longer chrome console

-- a restyled speedometer face

-- ignition lock (which allows you to remove the key after it's turned on)

-- ignition switch position is also much more convenient

-- switch to seven-spoke wheels from five-spokers

-- revised air box covers

-- new badges on the tank, windshield and backrest

-- Despite the added displacement, greater comfort and higher bling-factor, the price was the same as the original 1500

-- Enough Clearance that a 205/60-16 Car Tire can be mounted

-- Only short coming was a ping caused by fuel mixture being to lean which is easily fixed with a TFI Unit

Reasons 1600 maybe better then 1700:

-- That Drive Belt doesn't have a lot of protection to stop rock chips on a Chip Seal Road or Gravel Road from wreaking havoc

-- Drive Shaft is definitely best

-- 1700 lacks power to pull 6th Gear at legal speeds even on a light upgrade

-- Plastic Top Case, Fairing, and Saddle Bags are real flimsy

-- Throttle by Wire is putting too much trust in electrons and Servo Motors (Look at Toyota issues)

-- Throttle by Cable is the best

-- Radio Speakers do not come close to being heard at legal speeds

-- If you want to make a Cruiser look like a Goldwing then just buy a Goldwing where most all the problems have been sorted out

-- Having a Drive Belt limits clearance so a Good sized Car Tire is not an option

-- This is just my 5 Cents

Northern Dancer,

Regards,

Ron

I agree 100% but I'm biased. If I ever have to replace my sweet 08 black/red Nomad, my first choice will be another low mileage 1600

My first choice would be a 2012 or earlier Victory Cross Roads with hard bags and a windshield. 2nd choice would be a lightly used 1600 Nomad.

Speaking of which, I am going tomorrow to look at a 2008 with 12,500 miles on it.
It will replace my 2007 with 87,500 miles.
Only problem is it is blue and silver, the worst combination, right Lar

TC, just swap your custom painted fenders, tank, etc from the 2007 to the 2008.

The 1600 Nomad and 1700 Voyager are both great bikes. I have owned both.
I wish I had the money to own both at the same time but I do not.

I would ride the Nomad when the wife wanted to go for a ride for a couple of hours.
I would take the Voyager if it was just me going out for an all day ride.

Perhaps you should have just said "My bike is better than all of yours!"

Northern Dancer,

Spoken like a true 'Ass Clown'.

Anybody can cut and paste, what personal experience do you have with more than one model or even one bike?

A lot of misinformation on the comparison. In addition to what Ring posted the fuel tank on the 2003 -1500 (probably other years too) is 5.0 not 4.2.
