best rain gear for that wont break the bank?
Hi all, After riding from AL to KY last weekend, partially in overcast, misty, light rain, I find myself wanting some good rain gear that won't break me. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Shima

I also need to add that i put on my goretex raincoat while riding the bike and it seemed to take in cold air and froze me through my leather vest and jacket that i was wearing under the raincoat.

No matter what brand you choose, check to see if there is a hot pipes patch on the inside of the right leg. Or sew one on.

I bought an inexpensive rain suit from Jafrum. So far it has been great and has the heat patches on the inside of the legs.

For really cheap rain gear, go to the local hardware / home supply place and get painters suits made of a product called Tyvek. It's the same stuff Frogg Toggs are made of, but WAY cheaper. Granted, you only get white, but in the low visibility situations like rainy weather, brighter is better.
To do them up for motorcycling, sew or better yet, use some Stitch Witchery, to attach some oven hot pots (you know, the square things you use to take hot stuff from the oven) or ironing board covers ( http://www.gadgetjq.com/froggtognomelt.htm ) onto the insides of the leg. Not so stylish (it's all about keeping dry, not winning a fashion contest), but it's way cheap and works well.

I use marine rain gear. Too much for me in AZ in the summer, but you won't get wet either.

I just did the ironing board cover and Stitch Witchery thing (above) on my Frog Toggs. Total cost about $10 and it works great. Simple yet elegant. Thought it was worth posting it again to get it to the top.
