Rain Gear

I know that there can be a long debate on rain gear. But I am wondering on what everyone is using and what didn't work??? I am in a toss up... I want the Icon PDX gear (trusted & proven gear) but also Frogg Toggs is more in my price range... I would prefer to have the Icon gear (even though I'll have to save to get it) but, if Frogg Toggs gear is good maybe I'll get that until I have enough to replace it with Icon.... What is everyone thoughts on this????? Any info will help since I don't have any right now and just get soaked at the moment...

I've had good success with the Frogg Toggs, need to be careful around hot pipes or you'll melt them. I had planned to upgrade mine but it's a very low priority since so far they've kept me dry in some serious heavy rains. Eventually after 5-6 hours of riding through a frog strangler I'll get a bit of seepage here and there but I'd expect that from pretty much any suit.

Just beware of the cheap, Walmart rain suits. They'll shred in the wind. I'd get something with either reflective stripes or entirely reflective. Bikes in the rain are nearly impossible to see. If I ever get a rain suit, I'll look at some military surplus as well as the Froggs Toggs.

Believe me, Tour Master rain gear works.
Read my thread "drowned rat trip"
We have the Tour master jackets and pants.

If you get Frogg Toggs, go to their site and order the heat resistant patches BEFORE you wear the pants. I melted mine the first time I wore them. I still use the jacket. I'll eventually get another rain suit, but it will be something different.

I use a Frog Togg jacket but for pants I use a light weight Gortex items I bought from Bass Pro. The pants are extra long so i can pull them up to mid-belly with the jacket going over them. . The pants are much lighter than the Frog Togg pants and pack much smaller. I also use them on cool to cold days as a "wind" blocker and I can also tuck the bottoms into my water-proof boats stopping all wind from going up my leg.

As referenced above, I wear "roper" type boots all the time and they are water-proof.

For gloves I wear a heavy duty rubber glove with over sized cuffs that pull over the jacket sleeves and I use wool inserts.

I carry my rain gear in the right side saddle bag (so I an not standing next to traffic lane) all rapped in a neat bundle.

i melted my frogg toggs before i ever got them on by laying the jacket over the seat
while putting the pants on.melted the whole sleeve off when it got on the hot pipe.
then i melted the pant leg when i put my feet down while stopped for some highway construction.no more frog toggs for me.

I bought marine rain gear. No seepage with it, but it doesn't breath well either. Very rugged stuff.
