K&N type filters 9X2
i know I've seen the numbers on these before but can't seem to find them when you need it. Im trying to buy at pep boys or anyplace local, a sprectre or K&N oiled cloth filter to replace the paper one. I need the numbers of either one so I can give it to the auto parts guys. They say they can't look up these two filters unless you give them a car, truck application??? How do you guys buy these local? Didnt really want to order off e-bay.

What color is it? The extract from K&N says that if it is red-pink, it is already pre-oiled.
10. Do K&N air filters come pre-oiled or must they be oiled before using? Almost all K&N air filters come pre-oiled and ready to use. They are packaged in a clear cellophane wrapper with the words “Factory Pre-oiled – Ready To Install”. The filter oil we use is red. A new oiled filter will appear red-pink in color. Some crankcase vent air filters come unoiled, however, they come with a small packet of K&N filter oil so they can be oiled before use. There are also a limited number of filters with specialty uses which are not pre-oiled. These items will be clearly marked as unoiled. Using an unoiled K&N filter will greatly reduce the filter’s efficiency and void our product warranty on filters that come pre-oiled from the factory. If you receive a filter that is packaged in its cellophane wrapper and is unoiled, contact K&N’s Customer Support department at (800) 858-3333. |

Thx Trevwales: i bought one for my truck and it was pre-oiled so i was thinking most are pre-oiled. But on K&N website it says must be oiled first? Your right if oiled they are pink. if not they are white. I will wait to see what comes and act accordingly. :-)

K&N has something like four filters that are 9" dia X 2" tall, but they aren't the same.
The K&N KN Air Filter E-1050 (I got off ebay) is 9X2 but the INNER diameter is smaller than my Spectre filter. It fits much better on the left side but doesn't fit the right side due to that little shelf under the ICS valves. This is OK because I decided to keep the right side stock and just have the K&N on the left side. I just didn't like the added clatter, although I definitely notice a decrease in performance.

I bought the E-3527 and plan on it for the left side, seems to have added spark to my power opening up more air. Will get it in 3 days.

Updated on K&N: received my new filter from K&N few days ago. it was sealed in a bag and said pre-oiled ready to use(pink). It fits snuggly in the chrome front spectre housing(good). Fits up to the backing plate nicely and looks sharp. Sucks good air now, waterproof, and stylish. i have not had anymore pinging so far and has more grunt than stock. i also removed my marble as mpg went down 2mpg (tried marble earlier and the same thing happened) now mpg went back up and seems to perform better w/o marble. :-)

OK, that's strange about the marble.
The marble does nothing to the intake. All it does is block air that's allowed to suck into the exhaust pipes, so as to help burn off any unburned fuel that's in the mufflers and pipes. I didn't notice any change in mileage or performance when I did the marble (which eventually became coasters.) Are you sure you didn't marble the crankcase breather by mistake? The hoses are about the same size, so perhaps an easy mistake to make. |

Where in the world did you find one for that price Doc? I can't find one for the 1500 that low.
