08 1600 Nomad Has Me Smiling
Hello, I'm pretty new here but glad I found you guys. I've been pretty impressed by the friendliness n wealth of knowledge on here. Today was my second day w my 08 Nomad. This was the bike I've been waiting for n glad I jumped on it. I've had my 98 1500a for a while n been checking craigslist daily for the 08 Nomad n hit the jackpot. I'm installing risers on it to make it a perfect fit. It's in perfect shape w under 5000 miles on it and was able to get it for 7000. I rode another 150 miles today n my face started hurting from grinning like a kid all day. I'm goona use info from here to take care of her n plan on years of riding. The last of the 1600s n shaft drive Nomad n in perfect shape...couldn't b happier. This bike is imo the best bang for your buck. What do u guys think in general here: do u like the 1600 shaft drive or 1700 belt drive better?

Be happy with your find. I have an '07 with 52,000 miles. No experience with the belt drive. They all have their pluses and minuses. Give the '08 a little TLC and it will make you happy for a very long time.
Oh, when you try to do your own maintenance and lift it with a motorcycle jack, give me a shout. I make adapters for them. (I know Greg, shameless)

I too ride an '08, bought new April 1, 2009. It now has almost 19,000 miles on it.
I prefer the shaft drive over a belt. Less chance of something happening on the road.

I have had a 1600 Nomad and now own a 2010 Voyager. I cant really feel a difference between the shaft and belt drive. Had the oil seal go in the final drive on the Nomad and replaced the rubber boot as it was cracked. Dont have to check or change the final drive oil anymore.
No issues with the belt drive on the Voyager yet. Login or Register to Remove Ads |
