Question Just wondering 12V Socket

Bought a 12V Female socket from Walmart the other day and would like to install it on my 2006 Nomad. Not to sure where the best place to install it is. Just wondering out of those who have installed them, where they put them on their bike.

I mounted mine the the handlebars. I butchered a bicycle water bottle holder and stuck them both tegether. Ugly little thing but it works. I use my outlet mostly for charging phone and GPS so I wanted it to be accessible. It really depends on what you are going to use it for. Good luck.

There's a great write-up on Gadget's site. http://www.gadgetjq.com/accessory_plug.htm

Other than that, almost everyone I know puts it on their handlebars or on their fairing/windshield.

I attached mine on one of the nuts on the inside of the windshield. Far one on the left so it does not interfere with my windshield bag.

Are you going to the Kanab Rally? If so you can have a closer look at mine. It's tucked in between the 3" riser to the handlebars and the windshield. The one I have is from Auto Zone and has a weather cap. It's wired into the ignition under the speedo so that it's not on when parked. That's really handy for me since I only use it for a GPS that sits on the windshield.

Thanks for the info. I should have been a little more specific about what I wanted to do with the socket. I am like most and would like to use it to charge my phone, GPS, and maybe the green slime pump if ever needed. I will try the windshield mount and may put one on each side of the windshield using the nuts..

You could mount the lighter socket in a saddlebag for those purposes.

I have one under the Lft side cover next to the fuel processor. use it to run a air pump mostly. Have plugged the phone charger in a couple times and charged the phone while in my jacket pocket. I think that if you had a coiled cord that would be inconvenient but mine is not.

There is an accessory connection in the head light bucket. It's a 10 amp circuit.

Found a place on the frame just in front of the right hand side of the gas tank. Already was thereaded. Used a black nylon clamp to secure it. Put a piece of hard black foam behind it so I could make it so you could plug into it. Close enough but hidden.
