Tire size 150/80-16 on rear of 08 Nomad?

Fellow members,

is there any reason I can't put a rear tire of size 150/80-16 on my 08 nomad? The width is slimmer but height is slightly taller than 170/70-16 OEM size.

From the rear, it would look like a cow trying to ride a unicycle.

Seriously, how about a 160/80-16?

It would work, but I agree with Scott that it wouldn't look very good.

What's you reason for wanting to go to a narrower tire?

It's about the tire. That's the largest 16" bridgestone spitfire S11 tire made. It's been one of those tires that has proved it's worth over the years. Would gladly go to a car tire (turanza 195/65-16) if I could find someone to change it for me or knew how to change it myself. Location - Tacoma, WA

I don't see why you couldn't do it, that is the stock size for all the 1500 Nomads.

Why would you want to put a 150/80 on the rear of a 1600 Nomad ? Most go with a 180/70.

With only a .79" difference in the width of the sidewall from OEM width, I'm not that concerned that I'm going to have too thin of a tire.

The overall diameter of the tire is being increased by the same amount. I see this as a slight bonus in torque.

Not sure how it will affect my speedometer accuracy or MPG. Neither of which I trust all that much anyway.

Thanks for the feedback.

As the second number of a tire size is the aspect ratio of it's width I think the overall diameter of a 150/80/16 is less than a 180/70/16, not greater.
150x80% =120 mm sidewall hight. 180x70% =126mm sidewall hight

@Kenda responders - I have a pretty good history with the spitfire, but I'm willing to try something new... Oy, I just looked at an image of the tread... reminds me of a jack-o-lantern :)

@CNC, my Nomad's OEM rear tire is 170/70-16. Perhaps they put a wider & taller one on the Canadian model?

When you're riding it you can't see it. If it is a good tire and is reasonally priced,
why not try it?

Your right I forgot I put a 180 on my bike from the 170.
150 80 vs 170 70 is only 1 mm difference.
