DONE ***Reed Valves / coasters

Now there may be more detail instructions when these things arrive next week however...

I have coasters on the way via UPS to eliminate the reed valves. To be ahead of the game I decided to remove the reed valves yesterday. I was looking forward to removing some hoses and making some space around the engine. To my surprise (cause I haven't looked at the service manual) there is a vacuum line that runs to the vacuum switch.

Anyone out there already done this? Save me some headache... what do you do with that vacuum line? Just cap it? ??? ??? ???

You can cap it if you pull off the right side backing plate so you can get to the nipple on the throttle body. Otherwise good luck! I just plugged the little hose and zip-tied it up to the frame. I plugged the big hole in the backing plate with a bolt & two fender washers, over the stock rubber grommet.

I have the air kit installed so I had the backing plate hose just hanging loose anyway. I guess I can take some stuff off to get to the throttle body. It looks a bit nasty to get at... guess tight jobs like this is why I keep those long handle hemostats around right?

I capped off the 06 with a yellow cap I bought in a packet of many caps all different colors and sizes at a NAPA. It isn't hard to reach with 45 degree needle nose pliers, and no gas tank in the way.

I want that air cross over GONE, but I don't want to cut it. Now that is a pain... I don't want to mess around in coolant either, and so it is mess in coolant. cut it, or forget it...

Coolant? I thought you only needed to remove the throttle body/manifold, and I didn't think it was water cooled.

Not that removing the injection isn't a pain. Plus you gotta buy new gaskets.

But paying $75 for a new 99 cent plastic pipe would be a killer if you had to replace one you'd cut.

Here's my theory: If you have the flexi extention for your dremmel, you could probably stick it deep in the duct and carefully split it into left & right pieces without actually destroying it. If you ever had to put it back in it could just be sleeved back together with some stiff plastic formed into a sleeve, and some silicone glue.

Assuming yer old lady doesn't find the nasty thing, go "WTH is this junk?" and just toss it in the trash.

I might be wrong thinking there was a coolant seal there in the way too. Either way I don't want to move that just to BUY gaskets and i don't want to cut it.

I don't know about these guys and their women, but mine don't do chit with my stuff. She knows if she does she will be having to look harder at the toliet seat.

One can never tell when ol' mac just might be 'tightenting' his tomahawks.....

Now I know most couples compromise, and so do I. She is nice to me, or I go live with the big bears on the backside of the Brooks Range in Alaska alone.

If that happens her lawyers will not be very happy, no house no bills no power, suffer no more fools, no nuthin''... For all I know lawyers are just another white meat.. But I don't see that happening..

Cadd you need to remeber I took over the bath area in the Top o' the Barn to paint Liberty. I had finished parts all over the futon main and only bed!, with more in the sink.

My gal ain't like many other's.. She also lived better than 1,095 days with me in a tee pee, with out much choice, other than she could have left....

Thanks for the advice.

FYI I bought the Thunder polished version of the coasters. They came with no instructions at all. I also came across some made by Baron's Customs. They have some instructions on line AND they come with caps. I don't know if the instructions clearly tell you to cap off the vacuum line but they are in the kit so Duuhhh.

Hopefully I will complete this little job this week end... and then Beez I will use the hemostats ! ! ! !

Here's what I did. The Dremel cuts the thing very nicely with a very straight cut (depending on your capabilities).

I do not think that an extension is necessary. If you can put the two pieces together at all, then you can put the two pieces together whether they are cut in the middle or not.

Considering all of the negative issues and consequences that may arise, I cut the left end off of mine with a very straight cut. The resulting two pieces will absolutely go back together. The task would be (if ever necessary) to find the correct adhesive and structural support to surround or support the two pieces of the unit.

I did it and am happy with the results. I don't want to influence anyone else since this was my experience alone.

So CMQ, where did you find one for $75? I may need it some day (maybe).

Tomk
