Bike for the wife.

Hey everyone.
Went to the Kawasaki dealer this morning to look at helmets. Didn't find what I wanted, but on the way out we saw that they had two 2003 Honda VLX 600 Shadows. Both very clean with 6500 or so miles on each. Hmmmm.
Donna sat on them and liked the smaller size and light feel. I liked the fact they are Hondas and very reliable. They were both 100% stock.
$3500 for either one; black or purple.
She is really thinking about it. She will do the MSF course etc but for her just to have something to putt around on and ride beside me on shorter trips... might be nice!
Kind of wish the big K had something like it; the used 800 Vulcan is too heave for her. She liked it but felt better on the VLX.
We'll see....

Man thats great. I hope she does it. Encourge here to take the MSF course. Hell take it with her if it means her riding her own ride.!!! Think about it no more two up riding??? The mods you can do now to your nad since there is no need for two up stuff. Get where I'm going with this. Alll good bro. Well anyway let us know how it goes. Good luck..

I sold an'89 Kawasaki LTD and traded in the 2000 Vulcan 1500 Classic because I could not convice her to ride for herself. Taught her the basics on the 454 so I know she can do, she wants to take the class in the spring... so maybe there is still hope for her someday.

Nico has a point; We know a Sheriff's Deputy who has a 500 Vulcan for sale. It isn't quite as low sitting as the VLX but is cheaper.
I think Scootworks does alot of metric customizing and has a project Vulcan 500. She liked it alot and I did too. I might check on lowering kits on those models and revisit the 500.
I also like the Scorpion exhaust they carry for the Vulcan 500 too!
We'll keep ya posted....

Have you looked into used Volusia/C50's yet? They are beautiful bikes and are quite reasonably priced used.

Best to let her start out on what she feels comfortable with or she will not ride it. Every bike feels/handles differently and it is not always centered around the cc size or weight as us Nomad owners can tell you.

Plus I believe the VLX 600's are still 4 speeds... correct me if that's changed....

Transmission Wide-ratio 4-speed

Final Drive O-ring-sealed chain

Nope... hasn't changed!

Nico,

Shouldn't you be a honda expert by now?

Thought you might think that as you just got the good deal on your 750. $500 less than rflnomad and a 150cc boost in displacement. I know a gal who rides a shadow 750 spirit and she rides that bike all over creation (500 mile trips) and never has a complaint about it's function or abilities. I'd bet if Donna does well in a MSF course that the 750 would be a great starting point, and possibly all she'd ever want.

Regards,

Stewart

Bike for the wife.

I had a 91 VLX. Great little bike. I had a lot of fun with it. It's a solo bike though. 2 up it loses a lot of power. I traded it for a 1100 Shadow after a couple years but to be honest, I'd like to have another just to play with. Here's my wife sitting on the one we had.
Ride safe,
Dano

Yes, very reasonable and good bike. They look bigger than they are. I tried to get my wife to take mine before trading it in, but she is not ready to ride her own yet.
