Video clip of my parking lot practice today
After watching the Ride Like a Pro DVD I felt like doing some practice. I was just using my digital still photo camera that has a not so great video mode, so it's a bit choppy. It starts with a 90 degree turn from a stop at full lock. I pull up to the line about 3-4 feet back, turn to full lock and take off. I come back into view and do some 17 foot circles, the stalls are 8 feet. Then I so some figure 8's, a couple of circles and ride back over to shut the camera off. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Dang Dan, is there any chrome at all left on the bottom of your mufflers? :)
Nicely done!

Any slower and you'll fall over, any faster and you'll run too wide. As tight as those turns are, you have to keep on "catching" yourself as you go around by letting a little more clutch out. Next time I go for a ride, I'll glance at the speedo. |

Hey Dan. I watched your 'you-tube' several times yesterday. Than went out and practiced some today. I did better.....your video demo did help. I know one thing though....gotta practice to replace old habits or they try to come back to haunt me. ;)
Not sure I'll be scraping them boards though. One more question. When you talk about 'cathing' yourself by letting out a little more clutch. Is than when you're also feathering the rear brake a bit when the bike is getting faster to slow it down a bit?

If you get into the very tight circles, it helps to use the clutch and the brake to moderate your speed. Dragging the brake makes it easier to keep the engine pulling, but not accelerate. So if you feel yourself dipping too far onto the floor boards (onto the bracket that holds the floorboard) you can pull yourself back up by letting a little more clutch out. If you weren't dragging the brake, and let a little more clutch out, the bike would want to run a little further out of the circle. It's a balance between powering yourself back up, but not accelerating. I found it a little more difficult this outing because it was my first time since getting a Mean Streak spring put in. It was a little harder to modulate the clutch, but I'll get used to it. |
