Cobra pipes for 1600 Nomad

Has anyone installed the Speedster Longs pipes by Cobra, with the FI200OR? How do you like the sound and power with these mods.... I am thinking about adding these to my 2007 Nomad.

Thanks, in VA

Groundhog,

Thanks for your reply.... tell me about a high flow air kit...is it a different airfilter element? What does it do for performance? In your opinion..is it worth doing? The M/C shop said I needed the fuel processor with the pipes :-(...so I have paid for it already...

It just so happens that I have a set of Cobra pipes that I used for about a month. Too loud for me to hear my radio and the neighbors didn't like them.

I MIGHT be willing to part with them if anyone wants to come to the Rio Grande Valley to get them. Might be willing to sell for $300 if anyone is interested.

I had them on my '05 Nomad 1600

No, I really don't have to sell them but I did pay around $450 for them. They are like new and sitting in my storage area. Someday I may get the urge to NOISE up the neighborhood again.

hello everyone, just registered. i just installed the v&h baggers. i did have a little difficulty with the left side but had read that most people do so, i just allowed for a more time. i did take out the baffles and love how nice they sound. i didn't buy the pc3 due to reading of threads. the one thing i did consider was "MARBELING". i got this from the http://www.gadgetjq.com sight which will help with back firing if you have a problem with it.

I run the V&H baggers with no FI module, but due to pinging I did disable the air injection using the marble trick but instead of a marble I turned an aluminum plug on the lathe at work. The engine very rarely pings now.

I installed the Speedster Longs by Cobra in about 30 minutes after removing the stock system...which took about 15 minutes... I also installed the fuel processor in about ten minutes.

I reused the exhaust gaskets for the new pipes with no problem.... The pipes fit perfectly and were easy to assemble...and remember to tighten the head pipes' acorn nuts last.

The pipes sound fine, and I find the loudness fine on the road.... I find that they are a little conspicuous cruising through town or a neighborhood.....(I am new to this kind of bike)

Both pipes terminate under the right side bag... so the grround clearance is less than the stock set up, and you can scrape the rear end of the lower pipe pipe in right hand corners... it will touch before the rider's right foot rest.

Bottom line....easy to install..... look great..... sound loud .... I don't know if the fuel processor was worth it.... email me at markh979@gmail.com if you want a photo

For performance:
A friend of mine had a (believe) 99 classic (carburetor) with a hyper-charger installed. He always said that the hyper-charger gave him more power. One night while traveling home together, I motioned him to pull up along side (I had the 2004 Nomad then). I indicated to throttle up. We were both in 5th gear.

He just steadily pulled away from me. I'm ready to put one on the 2007 Nomad.

By the way - and this is not for the weak of heart, hear is a how-to on braking in a motorcycle.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm (RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT)

It will also make a difference between same year/model on which has a little more spunk.

Semper Fi!

I used Cobra pipes on my 99 Nomad and on my 02 Nomad, worked fine, never a problem. I have V&H pipes on my 05 Nomad, and also have had no problems.

I installed the V&H Baggers ...
I am thinking of get some of those myself (found a set on sale for $424 --not sure if that is a good price or not). How much louder are they? Someone said our county (Peoria County, IL) is starting to crack down on "noise".

Also, one more point/question, my Nomad is brand new, should I wait to put the baggers on after a certain milage point? ??? :-/

Glad to have a forum to ask these kinds of questions.
