HELP Im leaking again

Hi
Below is the picture.
I am leaking what looks like oil from the area behind the clutch bleed housing.
In the picture you may also see what looks liek a black seal is this my issue or do I have bigger problems? Scratch that..It looks like this is only a spacer. there is however another oil seal behind here along with a piston...please look here...
http://www.clintoncountymotorsports....008&fveh=21205
I have never taken this area apart before on any bike, does anyone have some experience here?
Please help I was planning on leaving this coming weekend on a bike trip.
Thanks all ahead of time

HELP Im leaking again

Clayton, The part you are pointing at is the clutch slave. Is it oil or brake fluid? If it is motor oil, your clutch pushrod seal may have popped out of the cavity it seals. If you want to investigate, use a zip tie to hold your clutch lever pulled in and remove the three bolts holding the slave unit in place. You will then see the pushrod. If the small donut seal has slipped out, you will need to clean it and the cavity well. Then use gasket adhesive around the OD of the seal and slide it back in being careful not to push it all the way through into the crankcase. Bolt the slave back up and reassemble the cover, shift levers and side cover. Let it set up a couple of hours and you should be good to go.

HELP Im leaking again

Cajun
Thanks..while I was waiting I did take the cover off...but didnt zip tie? (did I screw up?)
In any case yes this donut seal was almost all the way out of the hole.
It looks good and I pushed it back in to see if it was (obviously) the culprit.
So as far as this rod is concerned...can I remove it? this is to remove the donut to put gasket adhesive on it? or should I gingerly slide the seal back out?
Does this happen alot?
I about had another heart attack LOL

Loctite the seal in place, make sure you clean the area real good first.

HELP Im leaking again

I didn't pull the push rod out of the bike I worked on but you can if you wish. Zip tieing the clutch lever keeps the piston from creeping out of the slave over an extended period of time. If you have it all back together, that didn't happen to you. If you can slide the seal back out without removing the push rod, do so. That will ensure you don't push the seal into the crankcase allowing it to fall to the bottom.

HELP Im leaking again

I did find a write up on this here:
http://home.insightbb.com/~kpmh.010/...h-Rod-Seal.htm
I suppose my question is why does it come out in one direction? What keeps it from going back into the case?
I know dumb question but an honest one :)
Thanks Cajun

HELP Im leaking again

It apparently can fall into the case, it won't harm anything if it dangles on the shaft, but try to avoid pushing it in too far.

HELP Im leaking again

Clayton thanks for posting and including that link.
As luck would have it last night when I parked to go in the store I found oil dripping from the kickstand area. When I came home I saw your post and figure yep there's my problem as well. I've ordered a new seal, figure I may as well replace it while I'm in there.

HELP Im leaking again

Ok...I see mentioned 2 alternatives to securing the donut..
Cajun: Gasket Adhesive
Ring: Loctite (blue I assume?)
In either case I assume both would work but in the event that later down the road
the seal actually should fail which of the 2 would be best once I need to remove the donut/seal?

Blue will work well, as long as you clean the oil residue good.

HELP Im leaking again

Just reading your heading, I was thinking this was more of a personal problem and you may need to see a doctor.

HELP Im leaking again

Just finished doing mine..pulled the clutch slave off and the seal was out on the pushrod about 1 1/2" out from the casing. I had ordered a new seal, put loctite on it, put a light film of grease along the pushrod where it slides through the seal.

Overall it's not a difficult job at all, laying on asphalt in 97 degree heat made it seem much worse :)
