Cobra FI2000

I am helping a buddy install a FI2000 on his Nomad and we noticed that the part number he bought was a 92-1963 not the 92-1963-50. The "-50" is for the Cali bikes, which his is. He plans on removing the Cali emissions crap soon, but hasn't done it yet.

Can anyone think of a reason why a different fuel processor would be needed for a Cali model? If you remove all the Cali crap would you need to go back to a standard processor?

At one time I had the correct FI2000 on my bike. It fried after grounding out. I replaced it with one spec'd for a 1600 classic. The only difference I found is that I now use slightly different settings to achieve the same result.

Isn't the difference that the "California" model is not adjustable?
