In the current issue of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine they compare three fixed fairing bikes: the Vaquero, Road Glide and Vision 8-ball. The author mentioned squirrelly handling of the Vaquero (especially at speed) more than once.

It's a pretty good comparison, read it if you have access to it.

Yeah, I read it. I haven't ridden a vaquero, so what do I know, but I thought it would have done better. MC has mixed it up more with different test riders, but it seems most are short. ;) I also thought the Victory would have walked all over the other two in terms of power.

I just read that article last night....I really didn't understand that statement about quirky handling. I haven't noticed that on my Vaquero. My previous bike was a V2K that was rock solid, and I didn't really notice a difference when I switched to the Vaquero, other than it felt lighter and handled better. Maybe if given the opportunity to ride 3 or 4 different bikes one after the other, one might notice a difference.

Remember they only ride one Vaquero too. There is a very good chance that theirs had unique issues (unbalanced tires, loose steering stem, etc). I have owned three 1600 Nomads and all three of them ride differently.

There was only one person that had issues with the Vaquero and she was the smallest of the testers, and may be the least experienced. It's one of those, YMMV deals.

Mileage. Your Mileage May Vary. It's means it all depends. Some people will like it, others not.

i have only ridden about 25 miles on a vaquero at speeds up to about 70mph but i did not notice any quirky handling.i did notice the lighter steering
and much improved low speed handling as compared to the 1600.

I've only ridden a Voyager and it was better handling than the 1600. Didn't get it above 70-75 though. I will say it didn't seem as smooth though as the 1600, especially shifting. I will tell you what though, judging from the 1700 garage forum here and the delphi 1700 Voyager forum, there seems to be a lot less problems with them. No cam chain issues, no clutch issues, no ping issues that I have heard of and some guys have already put 100K+ miles on them. I think that is a good thing. The 1700 is a clean slate build, so I imagine ma kaw learned a few things since the 1600.

I test rode two of the vaqueros at the national rally. Short shield and the one with the tall shield. I had them both up to brief spurts at 80 mph. I didn't notice any "squirrelishness" on either.
