clutch observation/ question

I noticed that my 2007 Nomad clutch was slipping during roll on throttle on the highway about a year after I bought it. Probably had less than 10,000 miles on it at the time. I bought a set of Judges washers thinking that I needed to do some clutch work.

Never used the washers because the slipping went away.

It seems that a lot of us have clutches that slip early on and go right to replacement parts. I'm wondering if we are jumping the gun a bit and should wait to see if things settle down a bit with a little use.

I used dino oil for the first couple of oil changes and then switched to Amsoil. I don't remember when I changed to Amsoil relative to the clutch slipping. The bike now has 45,310 miles on it and the clutch is solid as a rock.

How can this be?

Sounds good that you have that amount of mileage and the clutch is still doing fine. I sure hope mine will make it that far with no clutch problems.

I would guess that your just fortunate and that your easy on the clutch, I got almost 40k on mine when I replaced the spring, and washers. Then I put another 37k on it with no signs of slipping right up until the bike was destroyed.

I have not had any clutch slippage on my 2008, and so have not had a need to open it up, but didn't I read on here that Kawa made some changes to later models at some point. Adding a washer or two mimicking somewhat the judges fix to reduce wear on the clutch spring?

Maybe putting in the spring and washers caused the bike to be destroyed Steve???!! ;)

You do a lot of highway riding. If you lived in a metro area, it would have been toast long ago.

It was 01 -04 that had the biggest problems before Kawasaki addressed the problem. I had to replace the friction disc at 9000 miles in my 01 so I put in the Mean Streak spring along with the Judges washers and a Barnette Gorilla clutch. She will rip your head off now.
