Global warming

The Greenies of this world have scared the crap out of people convicing them that we are all going to die from some future heat wave if we don't change our ways and "Go Green". Hence the latest PC mantra against CO2 and coal fired power plants. In the meantime many of us (read the "Good Morning" thread) are freezing our butts off and others are seeing snow who haven't seen snow in years. So, I am curious about where many of us here stand on this issue. Global warming yes or no. Is Al Gore our savior? Or a nut job!

I just bought more pellets for the stove downstairs. If this planet is going to warm up I wish it would hurry!

Global warming

I'm not doubting that there have been variations in the earth's temperature, what I do doubt is their genesis. Science sustains itself by creating theories to explain things they dont understand. The global warming theory that this is all due to the burning of carbon based fuels is one of these theories. What this one has going for it is a "marketing campaign" and a media blitz. The blitz reinforces the adage "if you tell a big enough lie loud enough and long enough and it becomes the truth"

I believe there are other explainations for cyclical heating/cooling of the earth that just arent getting the media attention.

Corporate greed will end up killing us all someday, if there is a dollar to be made, these people don't care what they do to our resources, if the local laws change they just move to another part of the world and set up shop there. Thats my 2cw.

I believe in fact that planet earth is warming! Just got to check out history. It is to somewhat a pattern and yes man is speeding it up some. Just have to think about it for a minute. There are about 7 billion people on this rock and what if we all farted at the same time??

The population explosion is of a much bigger problem than global warming. Our own country has doubled in population in the past 60 years. I wonder where we will get our food and water when the USA has a half billion people. Oh I forget, the American Union will take care of that.

I think they started out calling it "global warming" but since some ice caps are growing and such they call it "climate change" now. The last coook I was listening to on the radio said that global warming is going to tilt the earth on its axis and put us all into an ice age. Maybe thats whats happening - My dad got snow drifts 2 feeet over his 6 foot privacy fence from this last storm.

Here's a pic of my place That green thing next to the street is my garbage can. I was litterally snowed in.

Hey WM. Looks like it was only about 10" of snow on the road. Should be able to drive through that. Also looks like the road was plowed toward the right of the picture. When I was a kid, if there was less then 2 feet of new snow, we could get out. Over 2 feet, a little harder but could still do it if you knew how to drive in it. Most roads already had tire tracks before the snow plow made it out.

45 and sunny in Vegas as I write this.

I don't know what is going on anymore with the weather and i don't think anyone else knows either. I don't like statistics that much but i am really tired of everyone thinking that they know what is going on and what is going to happen. If we all do our part helping the ecosystem then whatever happens atleast we can say that we tried. I am not going to live my life by what people think is happening. Like with Bush, and i know some of you are not going to like this but, we are only still at war because of their f@cking oil. That is all that he is interested in is the oil over there. And here we have people dying so he can make money. Anyways, sorry about that but i really hate the way it is being run here. They raise taxes on everything from food to gas but then they don't increase our wages. You have people just starting new jobs making almost what you make and you have worked there for 5-10 years. I am going to live my life the best way that i can and pray that because i brought a child into this world that i didn't ruin it for him.

History shows us that the world was once covered in water. We had an Ice age, huge fires and many other catostrophic events though out the history of this planet.Entire civilizations wiped out, dinosaurs gone, cavemen gone {except for the few on the Geico commercial}. How do we know that this isnt just a another notch in belt of this planet.I remember when I was in grade school in the 60's a teacher, I had told us that eventually we will have Florida type weather in the northeast and they will have our winters.I grew up 60 miles north of NYC. we had snows that started in november and lasted till April, one year I remember Trick or Treating in snow. If we only got a foot of snow no one even talked about it. 3 foot snows were common{and we never missed a day of school}.Florida was always hot now they have snow and Ice. crops are wiped out do to cold weather. Maybe this teacher new more than Al Gore and the rest of the tree huggers.

Good conversation here. I'm tired of the news media whiping up the next crisis and then the politicians flocking together to solve it at our expense. That's why we don't drill for oil offshore or in ANWR or build new refineries and why we can not build a new coal fired power plant. China is bringing on one new coal plant PER WEEK to fuel their economy and I know that they do not have environmental restrictions on smokestack emissions that we do. I also think, someone can correct me on this if they know better, that China shares the same atmosphere on this planet that we use. China and India put far more polution into the atmosphere than we do but you only hear the Greenies blame us and want to tax us into oblivion because of it. Sorry Dakals, but I do not buy the Bush hater rhetoric that we are at war to line his pockets. That has been said of every President who presided over a war and it is really getting old.

I just wish that the media would report the news instead of trying to make the news. I guarantee that we are going to start to see "news" reports of impending doom from flooding due to snow melt and here in the West wildfires later this summer because the extra water (snow pack) will cause "unusually" heavy grass growth that will dry out and add to the fire danger. Augh....... Just report what does happen and stop trying to predict what may happen to try to control us.

By the way, I have not voted yet but am leaning toward Al Gore being a nut job.
