Oil Filler Cap

I apologize in advance for asking a question which MUST have been addressed before, but Search really sucks and I can't find anything germane.

The question: what is the best replacement members have found for the cursed, impossible-to-remove oil filler cap on 1600 Nomads? I see Fire & Steel offers one that appears to be knurled and usable. Are there others which are preferable?

(I ask this after having had to use a set of 24" Channel Locks to remove a stubbornly stuck filler cap.)

I just use a fender washer and vice grips.Never had any problem getting it off. There are several replacements like you are looking for on Ebay.

I use a large wide blade flat screwdriver and have not marred the finish in the groove. Works good for me.

I use a large washer, but don't put it back on too tight. Just a gentle snug is all you need. They seem to tighten themselves over time.

Check out this page. I use a Cobra cap that is like the second one down. I like the ones with the thumb blade, makes it easy to turn.

I don't have a silver dollar. :'(

But like Steve said, very lightly snug and you'll be fine...

One of our members, Chuckster, makes a "tool" to use with a 3/8" drive that works for me.

This is what I went with when I got home after needing to add oil on my trip to Custer. Works great but like BD and others have said. Just snug it.
