Brakes?

I heard what sounded like metal to metal from the rear brakes on the way in this morning. Bike is a 07 1600 with 30K+ miles. I guess it is time to replace brake pads. I have never done this. Is it a difficult job? What pads are recommended? Best place to buy? Or should I just take to a shop and have it done. I do not have a motorcyle jack. Can it be done mc jack?

thanks in advance.

You don't need a jack to do the brakes. Since the rear caliper is on the right side, all you have to do is have the bike on the sidestand, remove the RH saddlebag (2 bolts) and then there are 2 bolts holding the caliper on. Remove the caliper and the pads come off with it. Inspect the pads. 30k seems a little short to me, but maybe you're heavy on the rear brake.

Ive ever only been able to get 20k out of the rear pads. And its a real easy job to replace them.

I was still on my original rear pads at 52k. I had a set on hand because I was going to replace them before I went to Maggie Valley. I was on my second set of front pads.
