car tires questions

I apologize for bring up a subject that has likely been brought many times already. But, I may need a new rear tire before the season is over and I was wondering what kind of car tire some of you are using? Would I have to replace both front and rear with same tire? Do you notice any difference in handling? I ride mostly two up, does that make difference? Do the bike shops have any issues with mounting a car tire? One last thing, what is the best size for a 06 1600?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts

A good place to start is on the Technical Board - Tires and Wheels - Car Tire Info.

Here's the direct link.

And all this time I thought car tires were for tires. You learn something new every day.

Just kidding of course. I know some of the guys use the car tire on the rear of their bikes.

You have to be a man to run a car tire

Mine feels a little different than a bike tire, but nothing bad that you don't get used to very quickly. Overall I like it.

Deacon, you might want to visit my post on "Best car tire yet" in the garage section.

http://www.vulcanbagger.com/phpBB3/v...ic.php?t=21743

Don't know where you live, but if close to me would be happy to let you try my newest tire out.
Needless to say since I'm on my 3rd ct I really like them. If I can help answer any personal questions, let me know.

car tires questions

Deacon,

Many on here are running an SP5000. I am running a Continental Vanco 2. It is a little more money but a taller tire. So far I love it. It takes a few miles to get used to it but after that you really don't notice it. One issue on handling is that it takes a little more input when turning but you get over that quickly.

Thank you for the input and links! I may do this sooner then I thought. I bought my bike used with 30,000 miles on it and would like to do the swing arm before I go to far, I'm not sure if it has ever been done. Mac is less then an hour from me, maybe I'll get him to show me how! (see my post regarding my recent oil change :( )

If you get a car tire installed now, and have the swingarm, driveshaft all cleaned, greased and serviced it should last until the tire needs replacing.

Joel - why a "taller tire"?
