Utopia Backrest

My Utopia backrest arrived the other day so I did the install yesterday. I was originally going to get a grasshopper but wanted the adjustability of the Utopia. The only thing that held me back was the thought of cutting into my seat :'( Well I watched a few videos of it being done and heard from a number of you that it really wasn't difficult so I bit the bullet and ordered one

Guess what, it really wasn't hard and turned out to be both a simple and quick job (about 30 minutes). Had I known how easy it was I would have bought one long ago. If you are holding back getting one because like me the thought of cutting into your seat scares the crap out of you, trust me it really isn't bad. I have attached a link to some pictures of what the process looks like if anyone decides to go ahead and get one. http://s1016.photobucket.com/albums/...ia%20Backrest/

Bob at Utopia was a pleasure to deal with and made and shipped the backrest on the date he stated he would. Now if the snow would just melt so I could go for a test ride

Brian nice job on the backrest install, great pix also. I have my Utopia backrest for over a year now and love it, especially the adjustability of it. I also like the saddlebag rails, where did you get them from?

I got the saddlebag rails off ebay for $39. Here is a current listing for the same ones from the same dealer http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-SADDLEBAG-TOP...item41576b0434

I followed the advice of folks on the forum to install them and it was quite easy, you just have to take your time

Brian, I just put in my bid for the rails.
To bad he doesn't have "buy now" I would have ordered them today.
Thanks for the link.

I also installed my utopia. Like you, I was hesitante to try since it called for cutting the seat. I never did my own install on my Wings since that was a lot more seat a stake. Now, I would do it on a wing, not that big of a deal. I think the utopia is a little big looking on the bike but I wouldn't change it at all since it is so comfortable! I have had smaller backrest and they were never as comfortable. You did a real nice job on yours. Enjoy!

I don't know Ben, I think the Utopia is the perfect size for the Nomad.
I think the others look to small. BTW your bike looks as good as mine. :)
I have the same color combination.
Maybe after I get the bag rails I look into posting some pix.

Hi Guys,
I ordered my Utopia last week for my '10 Nomad. I installed one on my GL1800 when I owned it, and it wasn't really that hard once you do it.
It looks like it'll be easier on my Nomad. I won't need such a big knife this time!
Take care, Eric
