Map holder

I'm looking for an inexpensive map holder for out of state trips that works for the nomad. I'm concerned about scratching the paint and don't want to pay big dollars for it.

I have a GPS but like having an overview or seeing the big picture while I'm driving.

Any suggestions as I have searched and seen some that look interesting. The plastic seems to be an issue on cheaper ones from yellowing. I'm looking for one that fits a map and i-pod. I don't need it for storage other than that.

Should one have more storage in it but is a better buy, I would consider it none the less.

Put your map in a large zip-loc bag, and hold it to the tank with a few strategically placed magnets.
If you're concerned about any potential scratches from that, use stronger magnets and a thin layer of cloth under the baggie.
??? ???

That'll work as I've thought of that. But I was looking for some other options than rigging it that way.

Thanks at any rate.

Tape one to the inside of your windshield?

I carry large, laminated folding maps for most of the states in my area. I also have a GPS. I break out the map, if needed, when stopped for gas or a break.

Ive just taped a map directly to the tank before with masking tape. My brother has a tank bag with a map pocket in it.

Here is one that Whitehorse Press sells. I've seen a ton of these on LD bikes.

Aerostitch has this one. Attaches to your bars. I won't ever put another magnet on my tank no matter how well padded.

My thoughts on the issue are not going to solve your issue, but I have attached two pressure spring clips (not sure if that is a right description) to my windshield by using the bolts that hold the windshield together. My map is handy when I want to review it but doesn't allow me to view it while riding. Just my 2 cents worth.

I think mine is a cheap river road magnetic tank map holder. To keep it from scratching I put a .69cent piece of felt under it.

I used a tank bag but one word of warning.
The sun/heat will cause highlighter to disappear.

I have a map case from Rally Pack. I bought it at a local bike shop but if I can find a link to a site that sells it, I will post it. It has six magnets that hold it very well to your tank. It's neoprene backed and doesn't scratch the tank at all. Never the less, I make sure to wipe the neoprene surface with my hand before I put it on, just in case.

It doesn't move, and it shows a pretty good portion of the map I'm looking at. What I've done is taken a Rand-McNally road atlas and I take out the pages I need. I fold them so I get a good overview and I'm not toting a ton of maps around.
