KZ1000 Kawasaki '79. Shaft drive. Not sure if it runs. Dude is asking $500. What do you think.

See if you can get it for under 300.00 and does it run? Those engines were pretty bullet proof. I knew a few guys who rode them back in the day. Nice bikes.
The KZ1000 frame was used for the police bikes, check the rear frame where the swing arm attaches and see if it looks good. Also under that seat? for any rust damage and the tank to see if it's rusted inside.
Seems to be mostely there, you can get the seat redone and find the turn signals for it still. Depending on those things, it's worth it if you like the bike. Makes me want a project bike ...sniff sniff!!!!

Those were great bikes Charlie. I would try to get him to come down some. Needs a lot of work and dollars.

I agree with Scott, see if you can get it for less. It needs some cosmetic work as well as unkown mechanical work, and some fresh duct tape on the seat.

agree...get him as low as you can...but at a glimpse, that bike looks like its in decent condition....agree with Ring too---that seat gonna need some fresh duct tape--make sure you get colored tape to match your new paint job ;)

If I think $500 is not much for all the good times one can have restoring a bike and riding it. Having said that I guess it boils down to how much it is going to cost you in terms of dollars, before you hit the road on your maiden voyage.

Watching TV vs restoring a bike. An easy decision.

Project Bike???

Ballast, look at my signature, I've had and still have some of these bikes. If you get it, let me know I have a buddy over in Ohio that all he deals in is Kawasaki bikes from the 1970's and is a expert on them. He has a ton of parts, motors, frames, tanks, seats, original exhausts, heck, anything you can think of, and he's a great guy, too!

He used to race the Z900 and KZ1000 bored out in the quarter mile professionally, retired now. And to show you how into the '70's Kawasaki's he is, he has 4 perfectly restored bikes sitting in his dining room! They look like they just came off the show room floor!

Either he doesn't want to sell, he's sold it or he's an idiot. Said he would be around yesterday but didn't give any contact info. So, we'll see.

Project Bike???

For my first motorcycle:
Six years ago I paid $300 for a '79 Honda 650.
Put about $500 in parts and repair.
Drove it for 3 years, learning to ride and had a great time.
But after cleaning the carbs 4 times in 3 years, I was ready for something bigger and easier.
It was a fun project though.
I sold it for $800 and probably could have gotten more.
