1st Wreck

Well this week started off great, but that ended quickly. Wednesday I changed the oil, fixed my turn signals, and installed chucksters risers. Friday I washed the bike and got it ready for my wife and I to take it on a weekend trip. First one in a while for the two of us. Ha d to work Friday night, got ready and left the house. Made it about eight miles and a woman in a mini van pulled out in front of me. I did everything I could think of in the time I had but ended up laying it down, still not sure if I laid it down or if I went down after the impact, everything is kinda still running together as to what happened. I do however remember rolling down the highway at least four or five times before coming to a stop. Luckily I was wearing chaps, jacket, and a full face helmet, wish I had been wearing gloves as well. I ended up with some pretty bad cuts and road rash on both hands, a little road rash on my back were apparently my jacket came up while i was rolling or sliding, and screwed my lower back up pretty bad. Went to the hospital and they said nothing was broke, just a bunch of scraps and bruises. I have to admit I feel I was pretty lucky considering, 36,500 on the Nomad with only a couple of close calls. I thank GOD that I was able to walk out of the hospital (slowly) but on my own. Found new sore places today but was expecting that as well. From what I've gotten to see of the bike, the front forks and tire was shoved into the radiator, not sure yet about the rest of it. I guess I'll be looking for a new bike now....

Man that really sucks. Get you a good lawyer and let her insurance buy you a new bike. Glad you had no injuries worse than you did. It could have been a lot worse. Jesus must have been looking out for you.

In the airplane world they like to say that "any landing you can walk away from is a good landing." Sounds to me like you had a good landing. Probably also have a whole new perspective on intersections.
I hope that those new aches and pains don't turn into anything serious. Tweaked backs suck big time.

Really sorry to here of this mishap, but glad your OK for the most part. I've had several close calls, and it's always someone not paying attention, or didn't see me.
Was your wife with you? and is she OK too?

They say there are two types of riders.....those who have been down and those that are going to. Add yourself to the first list and thank your lucky stars you walked away. Sorry your bike got so twisted....but glad to hear you are already thinking about a new one! If I stopped to think about what could happen to you while riding...I would never even get on a bike...but....as I type this, I'm about to put on my heated gear and head out for a ride on what is a beautiful, sunny 30 degree day here in the NW! Damn cagers anyways. Hope you heal up soon!

Thanks for all the concerns. Luckily my wife was not with me at the time, that is one of my biggest fears about riding, is something happening to her. The worst part is that I know I did everything right, I watched it happen, her front tire started rolling and she wasn't even looking in my direction. I knew I couldn't make it in front of her so I tried going behind, there just wasn't enough room or time. While laying in the hospital my wife got kinda upset with me cause I kept playing it over and over in my head trying to figure out what I could have done different to avoid it. So far the only answer I've come up with is; not to have been there at all. It's weird I can play most of it in my head, some parts are blank, but over all I know what happened and it seems like it all happened in slow motion. Luckily there was plenty of people around and emergency vehicles were on the scene in a matter of seconds. I am very thankful that I more or less walked away from it, I know my fate was in GOD's hands, it was a pretty busy area and could have easily gone the other way. I will however be back on a bike and will most likely be a new Nomad. I loved that bike and was planning on keeping it even if I upgraded to a newer one on down the road. It had been my first bike. Road dirt bikes growing up but never a street bike until I bought it. Fell in love with it sitting on the showroom floor, bought it and started riding. I think it will take longer for my wife to get back on one than it will me, but I'm confident that she will ride with me again. I know it had to rough for her to get that call, but she has been a great support for me through this. She kinda laughed at me last night because I wanted the computer so that I could post this on here. It's my way of dealing with it, talking about it. Just like yesterday I really wanted to go see the bike and take pictures, just couldn't get in to see it, they had it locked up in a garage and all I could see was a little through the window, she also couldn't understand why I wanted to go by the crash site, couldn't really give her an answer other than it was just something I needed to do. Anyway long story short, thanks for the thoughts, prayers, and concerns. I am very grateful to be a part of this group and am looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can over the next few years. I will be on here as much as possible, and will be riding as soon as the insurance settles and I can get another bike. Be safe my friends, it can all change in a split second....

Real sorry to hear of the mishap. Glad you weren't hurt real bad. The bike will either be fixed or replaced {sounds like it'll be replaced though} Having just laid my bike down last fall, I can feel for your loss and hurts. It'll all turn out fine for you though. Take care of those scrapes and cuts.
