JOG success stories
Last week I purchased a 1999 Nomad. Love the bike and looking forward to many years of riding.
I thought I had done all my homework and read all the reviews prior to buying it. After the purchase and doing some searching I find that I'm the owner of one of the highest POG failure bikes out there. I've pretty much given in to the fact that I'll have to do the JOG at some point. Fortunately the bike only has 5,400 miles on it and hopefully I have a little time here. What I'm looking for are some success stories (as many as I can get) for the JOG replacement. I've read all the instructions numerous times so I'm familiar with the procedure and potential pitfalls. I'm mechanical and intend to take it on myself. Unfortunately on some other forums I've read about some JOG failures. Not sure if these are due to improper installation or what, but they were failures nonetheless. Lets hear some success stories so I can have the warm fuzzies prior to shelling out the $250 for the Judge. Thanks Dan

If I'm not mistaken, I think Maw Kaw will replace your plastic oil gear for free?..... A recall thing.

From what I've read they would at one time, but only after it actually failed. Not as a preventive measure. Also any engine damage that occurred due to the failure was your problem. Had to hope you shut it down right away.
Then I read they've even stopped doing that and won't cover anything now.

I wouldn't take a lot chances. If it hasn't already been taken care of I would just plan on a warm day project and do it. It is something that will have to be done sooner or later.

Really no question as to whether or not I'm going to do it. I know it has to be done if I want to take my bike on a road trip with confidence. Would just like to get a feel for the success vs failure ratio of the kit.

Are you sure that it hasn't been done. Kawasaki stopped covering the warranty on them a year or two ago.
From what Ive read the jog has a high success rate if you pay attention to detail and have the parts meticulousley clean, and use good fresh Loc Tite. You should give Judge a call and ask him yourself. Heres an email address for him, Im not sure if its still current but give him a try. rcoglesby56@bellsouth.net

Actually I considered that. I suppose it's possible it was replaced however, it sounds like most the failures occurred on bikes with 14,000 miles (or more). Again this one only has 5,400 so although it's possible that it failed and has been replaced, it seems unlikely.
I'll shoot the previous owner an email and ask him. Seems like a decent sort of guy and I'm sure he'd tell me one way or the other. Not likely that the owner before him did it. He sold the bike with only 900 miles on it. I'm the third owner of a bike with just over 5K miles on it. How does that happen? I surely intend to rectify that low mileage problem. ![]() Thanks for the input guys. Still waiting for the warm fuzzies though.......... ;) P.S. I really like your bike. Are those factory colors. Don't think I've seen that particular combination.

My bike is oem colors for 2002.
Id make sure and find out what you have first of all in there. I think Gadgets Fixit sight has an article on the oil gear and shows how you can check it. I think you can remove an engine cover and be able to see it in there.

JOG is a Judges oil gear, developed as a replacement for the pog, without splitting the engine cases. It is an aftermarket steel gear made by a guy on another forum.

Tombstone; If your not positive that its been replaced you should check it out for yourself. They say that all the plastic gears will fail at one point. Then you will lose all oil pressure instantly.
Hopefully yours has been done at some point.

$250 is peanuts compared to the $1500-$2000 to rebuild after the POG fails and you lose oil pressure.
How's that for warm and fuzzy? ![]()

Check it out, change it if not already done. And then enjoy one of the best motorcycles ever built. Ride it proudly!
