Harley Fairing Inner/Outer

I have a HD fairing, both inner and outer. It has a tray instead of radio. It comes with HD Headlight, HD Voltmeter (needs a new bulb or LED), tinted lowers, 5" tinted shield, and HD Tachometer. It had been adapted to fit my Vulcan 900, with cuts made on the bracket.

Asking $380 + shipping

You should be able to install a stereo where your "tray" is. That helps keep the radio protected. My fairing is a Premeux, very similar to yours, and that is how the radio mounts in them. You have to drill a couple holes in the back of the tray for the radio wiring to pass through.

He isn't wanting to install a radio, just sell it Steve. Nice to know for anyone that wants to buy it though.

How much do you want for this? Does anyone know what adjustments are needed to fit a Nomad?

Lee Sido, and I think Chuckster make the brackets for the Harley fairings. With them, its pretty well a bolt on installation.

I installed an HD fairing 2 piece. I got the HD brackets that came with the fairing (polished, chrome) and modified them and had them bent. I made a template from them out of cardboard and then bent them into shape required to make the inner fit and then attached the outer to ensure no fit issues and marked where to drill the brackets etc. I then took those bends to a local fabrication shop who bent the brackets to the right angles for a good fit. Now since I had the time and place to do it, I went that route. But since others have already done the leg work for you, then it's a simple buy bolt on and your done. It however does depend on how your fairing attaches? The one's LeeSido and others have are different then my brackets/mounting so another reason I modified mine.

Well it was said to fit 1960's to 1980's HD's. I think it closest to Reckless fairing but with HD brackets that are too narrow to fit the Nomad brackets from the windshield.
I think it is for a Electra Glide, but not sure as it was an aftermarket company. I would recommend anyone looking for a fairing for there Nomad that the Reckless seems like a good deal and easy mounting as they've done the legwork for you. I didn't either find them when looking or they've dropped in price since then. For the work done to make my brackets work it would have been easier to just buy them, BUT I like the fact that I made them and am happy with the way it worked out.
I can remove mine in about 5 minutes and revert back to the windshield if I wish, another bonus especially for front end work.

If doing it over however I think I'd go for the Reckless fairing and either get the 6x9 speakers or with 1 pair of 6" speakers instead of the 4 5"
I wish mine had a place for gauges, but again haven't needed them in 8+ years now so guess there not really needed ;)

I really like your fairing, I have a RadioCaddy that I purchased
about 3years ago & had it on my 1998 Yamaha RSTD, it was a
bolt-on deal with TheTrikeShop who made the brackets for it,
I've been wanting to put it on the Nomad but I pulled up the
brackets they make for them on-line and I don't like them. I really
like the looks of the Harley & Reckless Fairings as well as the
RadioCaddy, I just don't care for the way in which the
brackets are exposed on the RadioCaddy??? I don't know which route I'll
be going but I'm going to sooner or later put a Fairing on the
Nomad!

Goose, my fairing may not be an Electra Glide then, as the brackets that were on mine mount from the inner headlight bucket area and bend so they mount to the windshield brackets from the Nomad. they sort of look like a backward S but at more right angles. The ones that came with mine where CHROME or highly polished. When I cut, bent and modified them from what you can SEE of the brackets they actually look pretty decent.

Sorry this next picture is a bit blurry, but you get the idea of the windshield bracket from the windshield and the new bracket in front of it to the inner fairing by the headlight.

I have confirmed that Chuckster makes a set for $90. If anyone is interested in buying something to easily bolt on. Although looking at Scott's, his brackets look exactly what I would think it would take to make this work on a Nomad. You need to come off the Nomad and out in front somewhat and then inward, to mount to the less wide fairing.

Scott, if you have a template for that metal cuts, I would not mind a copy. Personally I think the HD fairing is better, and prefer the gauges. The outter is ABS vs fiberglass, the inner requires no paint as it is a flat black and stands up better to abuse. You can put lowers on it as well, as you see in the pic. The tach should wire straight into the Nomad, as well as the voltmeter, which is nice too, especially when you run all the heated gear and stereos.

I have a template I made for the brackets. One is just a reverse of the other. I have one in cardboard that I bent into shape to see how it would fit (clearance wise) and the holes to mount on the fairing and the bolts for the windshield brackets that remain on the bike.

I can make one out of paper and mark the bends (folds) for you? Then you can make one out of stiff cardboard like I did. Send me a pm with your address and I can mail you one. Cardboard would be a little bulky and cost $ to mail. It's easy, but I would modify the design of mine if making it out of metal and having them cut out. I used the original brackets and modified them. I made it to come on and off if needed without removing the bolts. This way I could raise them and lower into place without worrying about getting the bolt holes lined up on each side first, which would be harder. The way mine is I can install the bolts a few turns and then lower the brackets with the fairing attached onto them. It is somewhat spring loaded but makes it one person installation much easier. Hope all that makes sense. :)
