mirror glass

I broke one of my mirrors trying to pry a spot mirror off of it, I should of used dental floss. Anyhow I went to a hardware store and a auto glass shop and they don't carry glass that thin. If I go to a dealer they'll say i have to buy a complete mirror frame, stem the whole shootin-ca-bang for a cost of hundreds of bucks. I bought a set of mirrors from JC Whitney that said for a nomad, great price too. But they are smaller then the originals, but I like to be able to see behind me. any ideas?

I don't know what year your Nomad is, but you can buy an entire mirror assembly from cheap cycle parts for $41.48 (2006).

Go to WalMart or a school supply store and find the organisers that you hang on lockers or the small magnetic backed mirrors for lockers. These are a thin type of plastic than can be cut easily and stuck on over the broken mirror.

Good idea Steve, that glass is really thin. Then this CLUMSY OAF will have practice for the next time I brake a mirror. I already have bad luck :'(

All ACE hardwares are different, but mine carries mirror plexi glass at .118 inch thick (3mm). Is that thin enough?

Autopart stores sometimes have mirror repair kits, sometimes even Walmart does. A mirrored sheet with an adhesive back.

But that replacement mentioned earlier sounds cheap enough for sure. I wouldn't mess with these fixes I've mentioned.

The local glass shop around here ( not automotive, but window repair, glass mirrors, shower stalls etc ) cuts mirror to almost any shape I'm not sure how thin he can get or work, but in the past I have gotten mirror cut to shape by him and used 2 way tape to attach the new mirror glass to the old one. Perhaps you have such a shop near you.

I tried a glass shop too, they didn't have anything that thin and said like Steve said try dollar general. If I find the mirror they will cut it. We're off to eat and have a cheap-ass beer then to dollar general

I didn't know you could make beer from fish heads, no wonder you guys have funny tasting beer!
Just a thought here Larry, you might ask the glass place about sealing the edge with something, as inexpensive mirror may deteriorate with moisture finding it's way between the silver backing and the glass.

I took the mirror to the glass shop this morning and just got home from picked it up. They cut and put the mirror together they did a good job for $8. I did a lousy job of picking out the mirror at dollar tree, after putting it on the bike I can see its a little wavy. If Dollar tree wasn't closing when I was there I should of looked around a little more :( Oh well it time for work :'(

I had to replace my left mirror and bought the entire mirror assembly at my local dealer for $40 plus.

That cheap mirror probably cost you more than $50 in time and trouble.
