De-baffle Question .........

I thought I might post it here as well. I'm hoping for responses. Sorry if I'm wrong :-/

It doesn't appear to difficult (even a caveman could do it ;) ). I am considering it, but I have some concerns.

1.
I have not heard one that has been de-baffled, but I did hear a Suzuki C50. It did sound deeper but it also sounded like it had an exhaust leak, kind of airy. Does the 1600 sound that way?

2.
I have also read that it can damage the engine long term (lack of back pressure?)

3.
For those of you who have done it, would you do it again? I've noticed many who do it eventually go to after market exhaust.

Thanks on advance for your input!

There are 14 replies to your original post in the Garage board. Are you going to keep reposting this until somebody tells you what you want to hear?

Well, that one kinda got hijacked (sniff). I am interested in doing it but I don't want to do something I'll regret. I can't spend $600 on a new exhaust but would like a bit more growl\rumble.

I was just giving you a hard time.

If you debaffle your pipes and don't like them, you can always re-install the baffles (providing you didn't destroy them in the removal process) and have them welded back in. Or, you could pick up a set of mufflers cheap from someone who installed aftermarket pipes and then you can switch back.

I'll be honest, they will have a little deeper growl, but don't be expecting a Harley with Rineharts.

Thanks Cactus (self esteem up 3.5 points). I had Vance and Hines Cruzers on my C50. I like the way they sounded at low RPM's, but way to loud on the hi-way. I just want to hear that big V-twin working

I did it about a year ago and wouldn't go back.
But I'm still getting V&Hs some day.

I did my 1500 and got just what I wanted. After markets are too loud for me. If I am riding, LOUD pipes are not going to save me, I am. If you are any place close to S. La. I will meet you and let you hear my 1500. I do not know if it would be similar to the 1600 or not. But that is what I did before I gutted mine. By the by, I am glad I did mine and do not want after markets.
Thanks for your time.
Oh and I think it is the Dry Heat in Az that does that to CJ some times.

If you want a little more rumble do it.

Consider this. I did my 2007 and rode it for a year. Finally got V&H and I liked them more. 2007 bike got totaled. Bought an 06 with stock exhausts. Could not stand it. Dug out my old debaffled mufflers and put them on. Sounded much better and I could live with it. But I am going to spend the $450 on the V&H soon.

Maybe this helps.

I debaffled mine and it is just the sound I wanted. Not to loud and a little more rumble.
In case you don't know I HATE LOUD PIPES all they do is piss off the general public and make them want to ban motorcycles.
There are more of them than us so guess who will win in the long run if we don't police ourselves.
