Saddlebag Removal

I am about to remove and then reinstall both saddle bags on my 07 Nomad.

I have not tried this before and while it looks simple (famous last words) I thought I would check for tips, advise, suggestions and/or warnings.

There are 2 10 mm bolts inside remove them lift up and out from the J hook on back of the bag. To install set the knobs on bottom of bag in rubber washer while placing the J hook on back of bag in proper place install bolts and tighten.

After removing the two interior bolts, lift the bag straight up and off it comes. Just have a safe place to lay them down after removing them. They don't stand up very well without falling over. I always lay mine on a large towel out of the way. Good time to put some silicone on the rubber grommets that the bottom of the bags slip into. The silicone will glue them to the frame so you won't accidentaly lose them. I find them easier to install by getting down on one knee and holding the bottom next to the rear post and the front of the bag in the vertical curve. If you have the rails on top of the bag, they make great handles. I line the bag hook up with the hanger and use one finger to guide the rear post into the grommet. Put your bolts back in good and snug and you've got it.

A nice place to set them after removal is in the back of my SUV. Carpeted and flat. When I removed the bags the first time I was worried they would fall after I removed the bolts but they stay on fine. I hit the bolts with a shot of silicone when they are out.

Be careful and when you lift them up don't hit the back of the helmet holders. Friend of mine at the dealership warned me about possibly scratching them on the metal.

And after the bolts are out leave them laying in the bottom of the bags close and lock the doors, before lifting.

I too place mine and anyone elses when working, on a blanket far away.

It's also a great time to wash the back side of the bags and clean the wheels and everything hidden back there.
