Rear Dunlop Tire Price at the Sturgis Rally

Stopped by 3 Forks (Between Hill City and Deadwood) the other day where they had a huge Dunlop Semi. They had a tent set up changing a rear tire on a fatboy which was on a table lift. I asked the gentleman how much he needed for a rear tire on my nomad. He called to a lady who looked up the price and said she could have it installed within the hour for $246...That includes tax, balancing and mounting she said...Wow, what a deal...I honestly believe I could get both tires for that amount on the internet...Also stopped by the Vance and Hines truck which was parked in Sioux Falls a few weeks ago and they said they could put some dual baggers on my nomad for a little over $800...and that's installed he said...(I picked them up @ Dennis Kirk for $438) I am actually amazed these vendors are getting those prices for these items...Some people must be desperate, rich, or both...Anyway, just an observation...The hotel sign down the road which advertised rooms for $39.99 and up all summer, suddenly went up to $99.99 this week...I guess the Sturgis Rally has begun...Jody

LOL, some people have more money than know how, but I doubt you can get the 2 tires for that price, but you would be real close. Good mc tires ft and rear. My ft was around 150 bucks a Dunlop radial, the rear a Dunlop car tire at 113 if i recall.

V&H is nuts.

It's LaQuinta on exit 61 right on interstate but I bet if I call them the $99 rooms would be taken but I'm sure they would have some $150 rooms...lol...Quite a few bikers here already, one got hit when a guys kayak fell off his truck and it hit the biker head on by Sheridan Lake...He is from Indiana (52) and last I heard he was in critical condition...Hope he makes it...

The $246 for the tire and installation isn't a bad deal. But normally vendors do get a bit more than you can find online. Of course when you buy online you still have to either mount the tire yourself or pay someone to do it.

I figure if a group of bikers guilt a comrade about their wimpy pipes or poor quality tires, someone will likely say eff it and buy some exspensive souvenirs. They were gonna buy 'em sooner or later, right?

Gene,
Tires must be expensive in AL. I can buy Dunlops (FRT & RR) at the dealer here for about $215 for the set, then have them mounted and balanced at an independant for $50.

Sturgis is about business, but Rapid City is a great place; beautiful scenery and lots to do. Hard to beat the Black Hills.

Rear Dunlop Tire Price at the Sturgis Rally

Back in 89 we were passing though Sturgis on our way across the country on the 86 Wing. The big event was just starting so we stopped and had a new rear tire mounted. I don't recall that the price but I don't think it was too bad. About 40 miles west, I heard a tingle, tingle, tingle. The bolt that held the muffler and forward portion of the trailer hitch fell of. Because of the loose hitch I pulled up to a farm house and asked if I could leave the trailer and go back to Sturgis for a bolt. The guy let me look through a box of bolts and I found a head bolt from a Briggs and Stratton engine that almost fit but was too long. Then I found a lug nut to use as a spacer and a nut for the bolt. That bolt and those two nuts made it to CA and back to NH without a problem.

I'm sure you wouldn't have to look very hard to find a $10 hamburger and an $8.00 bottle of beer, either.
