harbor freight lift

has anyone used this lift with the bike on the kick stand? strap the bike down and raise it up to change the oil while it's on it's side and up in the air?

I just change mine with the bike on the concrete floor of my carport. I am sure there are some that have done it with the bike on the lift. Probably be a lot easier changing the oil and filter that way.

I use Gene's method. As long as you can reach the filter and get a bucket under the drain plug, I think it is what ever is comfortable. I have seen folks use lots of kinds of lifts, but never seen the bike on a lift and on the kick stand at the same time. The picture in my mind says that would not be safe.
Thanks for your time

I have the air/hydraulic table lift, wouldn't be without it...I can drive up on it, strap it down, and work on the bike comfortably...Last I looked you can get a hydraulic lift from between $300 & $350 if you are using the 20% off coupon...Pretty Sweet Deal IMO...Jody

I change the oil while the bike is leaning on the kickstand. For me, it's easier and quicker. I also think the jack itself would be in the way of accessing the drain bolt(s) and the filter. I generally use the lift for any work that may require extended lift time...tires, installing a hitch, switching my mufflers, swingarm maintenance, etc....

The lift table would be sweet though!

I would have a lift in a second if I had the room. Just have the HF jack and a Idaho adapter. However, unless I am doing other stuff to the bike during an oil change, its on the kickstand.

I don't use a lift of any kind to change oils. I place a ruff cut 2x4x6 wood block under the side stand and that's it. That ends up about just right to add final drive gear oil. There is tons of room for 2 drain pans, and getting at the screen drain plug is a breeze.

I use Idaho's HF lift adapter for swing arms tire changes.

Mac

Looking at your photos of the lift, why do you run the Nomad up on one inch planks before lifting?

harbor freight lift

I just changed my oil with a harbor freight lift. The lift arms are in the way of the oil plug and filter. I did slide the lift as far forward as possible and leveled the bike. The front was higher than the back witch helped the oil to drain. It is a good lift for the money. I did not strap the bike down and it is a solid lift. When you want to lower the bike you need to press the pedal quickly or the bike will drop fast. REMEMBER Press pedal easy bike will go down fast . Press fast bike will go down easy.

I do as much as I can with the bike on solid ground, My neighbour has the Harbour Freight lift and its good when you need it, but unless you have lots of room in the garage its tough to store.

The best way for me to drain oils and I do both at the same time is to stuff up a 2x4 block under the side stand. I just do my best work layin down

Damn right the lift is smack in the way to change engine oil and is too straight up to add final drive oil.

Storing the lift is easy, HANG IT!
