Guys - do me a favor.

Recently met a couple I have never seen before in my life on a group ride. She rides pillion. Her hubby was very cordial and was telling me and my husband how he wished he could get his wife to ride her own but she doesn't want to.

The whole time she was obviously cool to me...not to anyone else but me. I kept thinking ...what?...I've never met these folks. What is her problem with me? Hubbie said maybe because I ride my own and he was going on about it a bit.

It's a personal choice to ride...not something that someone should be talked into....if someone else (significaant other etc...) starts to ride just because they were bugged into it and then something happened...well just imagine the guilt trip.

So do me a favor...if your significant other doesn't have any interest in riding her (or his) own...leave it be.

It would have been great if instead of not talking to me...she talked about it....we might have really connected and I might could have my hubbie hint to hers to leave it be if the subject arised again. I'm really a nice person and hate it when someone I've never met acts like I've done something to them...oh well. :-/

Okay....pound away at me...I'm ready. :-*

Nothing to pound away at Nancy. The husband was totally wrong on this. It is her choice and her choice only on to ride or drive a motorcycle. My wife has her own scooter for work but would rather ride on the back when on long trips. Fine by me. Kinda enjoy reaching down and patting her on the knee.

I don't understand why the woman was cool towards you. What was you said that created that, or don't you know?

My wife isn't interested in riding her own bike either, but she likes to ride pillion with me, and pretty much only me. She says her coordination isn't right to ride a bike.

I did take to see a yammi 250 v twin, and a honda rebel also 250 cc's, but she didn't want to toss a leg over either of them. She can drive a stick shift car, but because long ago i taught her.

And i don't wish she rode her own bike, I just wanted to let her decide on her own. She rides pillion so well at times I have to reach back and grab her, to be sure she is still there.

My wife has ZERO interest in riding on her own, maybe less than zero. She also does not like to ride with me anymore except for very short trips into town for breakfast or dinner. I'm pretty much solo and have just resigned myself to that.

Don't let the other gal get to you. Some folks project their thoughts and expectations onto others and act on that without knowing the other person(s). They are usually miserable people. Pray for her.

Guys - do me a favor.

I have a hunch that this wasn't the first time. I wonder if every time that couple comes across a woman riding her own bike that the husband brings it up to her. If so, maybe she's gotten to the point where she hates to see other women on their own bikes and maybe even resents the fact that they ride their own bikes.

I hope that he doesn't get her to the point where she won't ride with him anymore.

MacMac....didn't say anything to her...she was like that from the get go...?

Being a good pillion or 'co-pilot' can make such a difference...I have complimented lots of folks on how good a 'co-pilot' they are.

I hope he doesn't get her to the point where she gets her own bike because she is tired of the harassment and then hurts herself. Can you imagine how he would feel then?

I always enjoyed having Cindy on the back of my bike and I must admit I was a little scared when she said she wanted to get her own. She never rode before and i thought she may get hurt.
She is a smart girl though and took the safety course. Now she rides better than i do.

Nancy, nothing you could have done under the circumstances.
Maybe she thought you were a mean biker bitch and was AFRAID to talk to you. ;) Just kidding

I certainly hope she doesn't get her own bike because of her husband nagging at her. Bob made a very good point. Some want their own bike others are happy to ride pillion and others have little interest in riding at all. That is just life and the way people are. Don't worry about it.

Bob has a good point. But maybe she is extremely shy :-/
My wife rode 30 years ago BK (before kids and not burger king) and she is the one who got me back into riding it didn't take long before she wanted to ride her own again.

Guys - do me a favor.

It would appear to me with what little I know other than what you said... that her husband is the one that "pitted" her against you by "nagging" about the fact that she needs to ride her own bike.

By doing so, you immediately are the person who she has been compared to. I am sure she felt belittled by his comments and comparison to you. Typically, people will react adversely in those situations to what it is they are compared to.

So, it is not you that she doesn't like, but rather the situation she was exposed to when being compared. (I have met you in Custer... so I know it is NOT you.)

I hope I made some sense about my point on this. I have seen this type of situation numerous times; and have even talked about it with my wife -- who doesn't ride and doesn't care ever to do so. She told me that was her observation of the situation we have seen which turned-out to be very similar to what you described. It made sense to me.

TC made a great point also. No one should ever be coerced into riding a motorcycle. Some simply are not capable of riding one safely -- period... just like some cannot dance, water-ski, play tennis, or whatever. Some people just simply will never have the motor-skills to do certain physical activities safely. ;)

Guys - do me a favor.

What gwilson said makes sence to me. For what ever reasons of that womans own, she either can't or won't ride her own bike, and feels pressured by it. Or her husband causes her to feel pressured.

And since you do ride and a big bike for that matter it just set that woman off.

I have a sort of opposite problem with a sis in law. She is one little and very determined gal.

She decided she was going to get a fat boy brand new and did, and then spend all summer learning to ride it. She is still learning to ride it with paid lessons, and I see that as the hardest way to learn. IMO had she settled for a smaller used bike in the first place she might be riding on the road now, but she is not.

No doubt she will learn how to ride the road, but not till later in Fall at the first. Maybe not till next season. She lives in Md, so maybe the longer season will get her on the road.

Nancy give it the weight it deserves... none... With so many things going on the the world today all of us individually march to our own beat. How some new person greets or interacts with me is none of my concern. In your case sure, the ol man shouldn't push her into it but it shouldn't play on your conscious whatsoever. that's his demon of "wants" not yours.

Try not to let someone else's "problem jacket" end up on your back...

I live by two phrases that one, I don't listen to is, "you know what you should do!?" That's my all time favorite. Two, my best advice is to answer someone in a simular situation as you would be to say, "Don't get caught into the Web".

I have a lot of people who like me and a lot that don't. funny thing is I honestly can't remember the "dont's" anymore because I have no interest in knowing who they are.

Caring about someone else's issue is one thing; until it bothers you then you've thought too much about it...
