windshield question

I'm want to clean/adjust the small secondary windshield behind the main one. Do all 8 bolts need to be removed to do this? Any thing to look out for? Bike is 07 1600. Thanks.

First, remove the windshield from the bike and place it on a clean, soft surface, such as on a table with a couple of towels or a blanket beneath it.

You can just remove the bolts around the secondary windshield. The secondary shield is designed to slide, but it will most likely be stuck in place by the rubber gasket between it and the chrome plates.

When I clean mine, I disassemble the whole thing, clean and polish each of the chrome pieces and the shields individually, then reassemble.

What to look out for? Those bolts are notorious for seizing, and will snap fairly easily. I always reassemble them with some anti-seize in the threads of the acorn nuts. Also, and this is important: there are two different bolt lengths. Don't mix them up.

Good luck!

Had to replace my bolts with SS screws and acorn nuts after they sized and I had to cut them off.

If you are running the winshield all the way down just remove the inter shield completely.

I just took the inner shield off and left the windshield in the stock position.

I replaced my stock bolts with chrome bullets with stainless steel / nylon lock nuts.

Where can you buy anti-sieze? Is there a brand name I can look for?

Permatex makes it and you can buy a tube at any auto parts store, like Autozone or NAPA.

+1 on one of CJ's points: Do NOT mix up the different bolt lengths and which holes they go in. when I installed my Clearview shield I did that. It took my daughter and I about 30 minutes to figure out which went where.

Replace the windshield with a fairing since you have it off.
