Gas tank vibrating

I got the bike back together after doing the cam chain tensioners, fluids etc and managed to get out for a ride this past weekend. When i put the tank back on one of the rubber cushions which are on either side of the tank mounted on the frame was missing, so I added a piece of 1/8" rubber to the left side of the bike. I hadn't noticed a vibration before but now it's noticeable. Cruising at low speeds no vibration, but if I role on or off the throttle hard tank vibration is really noticeable. Any thoughts....

Thanks
Ed

I think I would be looking for the missing rubber mount.

Many hardware stores have an assortment of rubber grommets, maybe you could find something thicker to match the other side.

I am with CJ. Buy 2 of the stock dampers so you have a spare. I bought a spare damper and a spare hard bag lower mounting gasket. I have already used the spare bag gasket.

Thread highjack

I used a little contact cement on the bag rubbers so they do not fall off the bag supports.

I lost my spare hard bag lower mounting gasket a couple of years ago and had to improvise but it still does not fit correctly. The dealer was not interested in looking for a part # and ordering. Someday I may find a dealer who will order a CHEAP item for me.

You can cut the middle out of a toilet flapper as a stop gap for the bag mount. Walmarts are everywhere now. I still remember the look on the cashiers face when I told her it was for my motorcycle.

Guess I am fortunate that Cycle World in Gadsden, Alabama has ordered anything I have ever wanted. Don't even have to pay first just pay when the part comes in. I ordered a gromet for the left side cover and it was less than $2.00 and the guy I deal with always orders and it comes in fast.

That gas tank grommett is also the part that causes squeeks after a while on the bike.
Coat it with a bit of silicone grease when you install it.

By the time you add shipping from Cheap Cycle Parts, it's probably $12 anywhere.

Thanks Everyone. I didn't think that adding that piece of rubber would make much of a difference seeing as there wasn't one there before but it's actually made the vibration more noticeable. The original damper was gone before I bought the bike, I'm going to the dealer and hopefully he has them in stock. Be nice to get that fixed before Sunday. There is 18 of us leaving for Nashville on Sunday so I'm trying to make sure everything is in top shape.

Uh, don't hold your breath. Don't be surprised if the dealer has never stocked them.
