New Spark Plug Socket
Hi All,
I had bought some new plugs a few weeks ago, but not gotten around to installing them, until today. The two on the left went on without a problem, then I turned my attention to the right side. Put on the POS factory wrench and gave it a turn and it just spun around the plug. Nice little indentions in the middle of each of the flats now. I've got 3 other spark plug sockets, but none of them fit these plugs. So I call my local bike parts shop and they have a real spark plug socket in stock, but tell me it's not going to be cheap. Well, it's either pay the piper, or leave the same plugs in my bike forever, so off I go. Now, $31.14 later I'm the proud owner of a Motion Pro 18mm deep spark plug socket. It only hurts for a little while, I guess. It sure did a sweet job of getting those other two plugs out. Have a nice Memorial Day weekend, all. It's beautiful weather here and I'm getting a lot of riding in. SuperDuty Login or Register to Remove Ads |

It's nice when you open your toolbox to new tools. You put anti-seize on the the threads of those new plugs right?? I am sure you did but just sayin'.

I bought a Craftsman deep thin-wall 18mm socket for $9.

My 18mm Craftsman cost a dollar. It came in one of the 200 piece $200 sets. The set had about 30 or 40 allen wrenches and screw driver bits. ::)

Aw, thanks for the salt in the wound guys! :)
I've wasted more money on less in the past. I'd wager that this cycle shop has more parts in stock and all the dealers together in my city, so maybe I helped them out a bit today. Yep, I used anti-seize, and di-electric grease, and also torqued to specs. I've been known to have a Kung Fu grip in the past and break off and strip bolts, so I try to pay attention to those things. I'm still hoping to build the courage for the swingarm and cam chain tensioner projects, because I want to keep this bike for a long time. Got the Craftsman here myself. As long as you got them out it doesn't matter what the cost. Getting them out was the objective and you did that. Glad it all worked out for you.

OK so I replaced the coolant and spark plugs today paying close attention to the Kawi spark plug wrench. The one in my '06 toolbox is heavy duty enough for sure.
A 12mm deep socket on the end works perfect. The old ones came out easy and the new ones went in with liberal amounts of anti-seize and a little better than a 1/2 turn after the plug hits the seal ring. I am now very surprised that your OEM socket could turn on the plug at all.
