Memphis Shades fairing

After looking at all the fairing options, keeping in mind I don't want a stereo and I don't want to lose my risers, I have been taking a hard look at the Memphis Shades batwing fairing. It's a one piece, lucite fairing, that is attached with the memphis shades quick lock system, making for easy removal. A vendor on ebay is offering the entire package for $361 (fairing/attachments/9 inch shield). A good price and a quick and easy fairing solution. No painting, quick attach and removal and no loss of risers, win/win/win.

So what are the thoughts???

Here's a description:

Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing

* Aerodynamic shape with an inner structure constructed of black textured ABS and outer structure of opaque black Lucite with a finish that can be painted but is designed to look great as is
* Fairing body is 36 1/2 in. wide and 17 in. tall, (excluding windshield and wind deflectors)
* Memphis Shades exclusive No-Tool Trigger-Lock mount kits feature a detach system that allows you to quickly and easily remove or install your fairing
* Fairing is predrilled and fitted with push-out hole plugs for easy deflector installation
* Windshields are available in three heights and seven translucent colors
* 5 in. windshields are solid translucent while 7 in. and 9 in. windshields are gradient translucent
* Optional wind deflectors extend the lower fairing surface for smooth and increased air flow
* Also available is a windshield tri-pouch for additional storage and fairing trims for additional decoration

I've seen one on a 1600 Classic. They look pretty good, it's a shame to waste all that space inside the fairing, in my opinion. If you don't want an inner fairing/radio, then it's probably your best option.

I thought Rifle made one as well, but they don't list one for a 1600 Nomad on their website, just the 1500 Nomad.

I have a nice leather lockable toolbag I'm going to mount on the inside. I miss having a glovebox I can put all the little stuff while I'm riding.
I looked at the Rifle products, they look nice, but $599 for a plain fairing was too much. When I clicked through the product selection, it listed the 1600 Nomad.

I've seen them on a 900 classic. Not too bad looking. Would you be buying one only for the fairing look?

I like the looks of the fairing, but mainly I'm looking for more wind and rain protection. Having the protection for the hands is a plus also. I have heated gloves, but riding this winter was brutal. I put on the hard lowers and the fairing with the added wings will give me almost full fairing protection.

I'm not so sure about the 9 inch shield though, I'm 5'9" and I don't want to be looking through the shield, but I figure I can cut or sand it down if it's a little too high.

I went to one of the vendors selling the fairings on e-bay and gave him the part numbers for everything off of the Memphis Shades website for the 1600 Nomad and asked him for a package deal. His quote was $361 delivered for the shield, the brackets and the fairing.

Here's the link to his auction, it's for a 1500, but the part number matches up to the 1600 Nomad part number from the Memphis Shades web site.

I was hoping someone on here had one actually installed so I could get some real world feedback.

I guess not. Looks like you get to 'break the ice', so to speak. Dare to be different!

Actually, i have one on mine and really like it. I personally bought it with it already on there and it works really well but if it were up to me i would get one with the radio and speakers in it. I have an ipod hook up with some little 2.5 speakers mounted to the bars. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm just not a music person, most of the time in the truck I'm listening to sports talk radio.

When I'm on the bike, I like to take in the sight, sounds and smells of riding a bike. I also wear ear plugs on longer rides, so between the V&H pipes, wind and the plugs, I'm not sure how much I could hear anyway.

I forgot to ask, what size shield do you have on yours? Do you look over or through it? Thanks, James
