I don't normally shift unless my underwear is in a really bad way.

If you want an exact answer you need to put a tach on the bike. Shift when you reach the red line.

Just before the rev limiter kicks in, thats probably around 5800 rpm or thereabouts.

Riding smartly I have hit 95 mph in 3rd a few times. I shift before I hit the rev limiter fer sartin... You go bounce off that in 2nd a couple times and you will get the idea. You can't hit red line exactly...

Hitting the rev limiter is kinda violent, the engine will sort of gag and spit, not being very friendly, but to learn where it is is harmless.

Gadget has a suggested shift point on one of his areas. I think they are 30, 40, 50, and 60 mph. I had to do some looking because my Nomad was so flippin' quiet before I gutted the pipes.
Thank for your time

I depends on how fast I'm accelerating but generally I shift when I pull in the clutch. :)

blackdogbrian ; since this is only your 5 post I feel I should tell you not to take offense at some of the wiseguy answers you got.
A lot of us like to bust balls on here. stick around and you will see that.
Your question gets answered almost all the time, eventually ;)

no worries, I don't offen easily (and I'm used to the abuse on other forums). The nomad is new, but I'm not new to bikes.

I don't have a tach on the bike, and I don't think it's really nessicary. If I have a sense of what speeds are the best power band points to shift - you never need a tach again!

I am not in the forum norm, being older, (lthough I can be a wise guy now and then).....I generally ride slowly and just shift as I go up and generally end up in top gear at 50 mph at most...once in a blue moon I goose it and then I just do it by ear/feel....

BTW, welcome to the forum....lots of really grand folks on here.

My normal shift pattern, from first to second 25 then into third at 40 then into fourth at 50 and into fifth at 60. Hope that helps.

Most times, once under way, I don't use the clutch for up-shifting. Is especially easier if the revs are higher.

Sweet! Until I read this thread I thought my 08 shifted smooth as a baby's butt. Silly me.

But, hey...now I have more excuses for more mods.

I usually run first to between 25 and sometimes up to 35. I never really worry about a particular speed, just shift on traffic needs and what feels good for the engine. I set my clutch lever on 4 and I really feel like there is a smooth sync between the clutch and throttle...after all it's a wet clutch and is designed to be feathered in an out with higher engine rpm. IMHO
