Fuel Pump Whine

2005 Nomad 1600...78,000 km.....I have noticed on occassion that my fuel pump 'whine' is much louder than usual. It seems to be random and intermittent when this happens.....but not frequently. I don't notice any effect on how the bike runs or performance. Should I be concerned ?? There has been mention of fuel pump noise on some posts here. I believe replacement cost is 'extreme'. Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it too much, theres not much you can do with them other than replacement, so just ride the bike and and you should get a few good years out of it.
When It stops whining thats when your troubles will begin.

Fuel Pump Whine

When mine started whining I rode it for another year then replaced it. I didn't want to get stuck in another state with a bike that would not run. Maybe it would still be running but I won't take the chance. New are over $300 but I took a chance on a used one from Ebay for around $75.
I like the piece of mind.
Steve, if it stops whining do you mean it will stop working?

TC, how is the one you bought on eBay working out? How much of a problem is it to change out?

Working fine so far. Knock,Knock ( Thats the sound of TC knocking on wood)
It is a piece of cake to change, I give the bike to the dealer along with some money and a couple days later I'm good to go.

Tim; I figure if its whining its working, when it stops I guess its time to repace it. If that time ever comes for me I'll replace it myself. It looks like a pretty easy job to do.
I just spent two days laying under my truck working on the fuel pump, that was not an easy job. Next time I'll pay someone to do it.

Fuel Pump Whine

My fuel pump has been whining now for about 14,000 kms. Some days it is noisier than others for some odd reason. Today it was really bad. I have had it out of the tank and stripped it down. There are about 3 component parts to it, a filter, the actual pump, and a plastic tower. You can clean the filter and the area where it locates. The pump motor is a sealed unit. None of the parts are available seperately, you have to buy the whole pump. They appear to be much cheaper in the U.S than in Canada. $400 in the U.S and over $700 here in Canada.

If I ever need one I'll probably check ebay, like Tim did. Ive seen complete fuel tanks sell for around a $100.00
