Just want to vent

I changed my rear tire this week and was planing on doing the swingarm service. I can't for the life of me find the swingarm seals from any dealer within 100 miles. You would think with how often this service is called for that it would be a stock item at the dealer ??? the quickest they can get them in is 2-5 business days...
I need to take the bike out of town this weekend and the wife is taking the "reliable" car somewhere else. Now I have to put the bike together and pull it apart again next week when the parts come in. I was thinking of using the old seals but that's never a good idea. I know I should have pre-planned and gotten the seals before I started but I tend to do most things the hard way.
Thanks for the place to vent!

Look on the bright side, you will be real good at a swing arm service.

The dealers dont stock jack these days. Heading over to my fathers house last week to help him install something on his Vulcan 900 he asked me to stop and grab two exhaust gaskets. Nope.. nada. Could have them in 2-3 days... Thankx

You don't need new seals. Clean up the old ones, repack the bearings with good quality, water repellent grease and put it back together. Unless your planning on parking your Nomad in the pond for the night, the old seals will be fine.

This is a fine place to vent and get things off your chest.

I agree with one of the other guys in that unless you spot something wrong with the seals, I would just clean them up and reuse them. Shouldn't be a problem.

I think it's around 7,000 miles. A service that is supposed to happen every 7,000 miles and they don't stock it. Then I suppose every time you need something done at a dealer that requires a new part you can plan on leaving it there for 3-5 days. I wouldn't know as I've never owned a new bike (warranty) or taken them there for work.

Dealers here don't usually stock them, my dealer (now closed) didn't carry exhaust flange gaskets, for crying out loud.

Look at your gaskets Stew, if they're in good shape they'll do you another 7k miles.

Macs gonna kill me. :)

My local dealer did not carry oil filters to fit the Nomad. And went I went in and asked for some fuel line they could not help me because I didn't take in a piece and nobody there knew and apparently they had no way of finding out.

When I took mine in for a rear tire the second time I asked my dealer to do the swing arm. they said they only do it if the customer specifically asks for it.
So, I am assuming there are a lot of Nomads in my area that have never had the swing-arm serviced and they are still running.
My conclusion is some people do way more maintenance than needed. This is just my opinion and yours may be entirely different.
I had them do mine but only because I am on this forum and you guys scare me sometimes.

Here is some good news gang!! On page 101 of the owner's manual it says that you lube the swing arm pivot at 15,000 miles. So it looks like it is just part of changing the back tire.
