Loctite on PhatII risers?

Just got my new Phat risers today.

I have had many motorcycles over the years and have used a lot of loctite to keep things from vibrating loose and anti seize on parts I want to come out like the spark plugs.

The instructions state "Do not use Loctite"

Why not? The stud threads into the riser easily by hand and it seems like it would thread in to far when you install the nut and torque it down. Would not a drop of 242 (blue) loctite on the riser side of the stud help or at least not screw up the install?

Im not sure why you couldn't use it. On my bike the risers came loose twice over time, I used red loctite and never had a problem since. Red loctite is rather overkill on most nut and bolt applications, you usually have to use a little heat to soften it up for removal.

I noted that on the instructions too. I was a good boy and followed directions using the "gootentite" method. Hasn't budged since the installation.

Mine used to work loose after a while,even after a good tightening. it must be all the potholes we have.

I don't recall that info, but I am sure i didn't and they never have come loose yet. Might be a one time install and the threads go good bye, on the first removal with the alloy risers.

There will be times when these will need to be removed too.

While i don't recall now, it may be I did use anti seize.. I am big on anti seize living in salt road Hell's Bump New Hampster.

We got frost heaves so big they each have names. You can loctate them on maps.

Don't believe me look at a NH map and you will see words like Presidential Range, which are nuthin more than frost heaves.

This is what I am concerned with. I don't want to worry about the risers coming loose when I'm a hundred miles from home.

Just like anything else on the bike check for tight once a month. Bikes are not cars.. Most all bikes vibrate more than cars, and some part tend to shake loose, but risers are not usually known to.

The way parts are in carbon steel going into alloy, and or stainless steel going into alloy I worry more about galvanic action seizing parts more than I worry about them getting loose.

A good part of that is in NH roads are salted with 2 kinds of salt year round. That dust gets into every thing, even ecu's on cars behind kick pannels.

When I did my rear swing arm service albeit 2,000 miles late there was white corrosion on the gear box studds! Had that been ignored a while longer the large acorns on these studds would have been seized nicely.

I installed my Phatt II risers last year without loctite, a few weeks ago while going over the bike I noticed a very slight wiggle on the risers when I'd pull/push on the handle bars. I unbolted the risers, applied a few drops of red loctite and tightened them back up. While I won't stop checking for loose bolts, etc, this is one place I want to ensure the odds are in my favor.

PICK up a Torque wrench at Sears..30/40$ .. Torque to specs you should be fine. BUT if you use Loc Tite Use Blue .. It doesnt bond as hard as Red Loc Tite,,,,,,,,,,,

I can't see that it would create a problem other than removing them later. Like Radco said use the blue rather than the red. A little easier to remove if you happen to need to.

I agree with Radco, as heat is usually required for red studd and bearing mount, unless taking out the threads is wanted , which usually it isn't.

We don't get proprietary information, and so we don't know what alloy things are..
