speedo face plate

Could someone tell me if there is a trick to getting the speedo apart on a 2000 nomad? I looked at it and to me it looks like it is a sealed unit the reason I'm asking is where the screws are on the fase plate it is starting to bubble. Thanks for any replies.

Yes I just did it and it is simple. The instructions in the above link are simple to follow with pictures.

Sorry I forgot to mention that The 2000 Nomad is different from 2001 and up. The 2001 and up is digital mine is not. The 2000 speedometer looks nothing like the one in the instructions above.

Thanks for the link Leadbelly, that should help if I ever need it.

Too bad it isn't what you need Billyray. Maybe it will give you enough information to help some though.

I did it on my 2000 (Mine is a carbed 1500 model). You can take a small flat blade screwdriver and (very carefully) start prying the chrome ring up a little at the time on the backside of the gauge till you get it rolled up all the way around enough to clear the housing. It is very easy to screw it up but take your time and it will work out. I wound up replacing my gauge with a new one because the insides were broken. Once you get the glass off the next hard thing is to get the needle off without damaging it. Again, do this very carefully! After that, the face plate is easy to get off. Make sure you get the needle back on in the right position. You will need to roll edge of the chrome back down a little at the time to finish it up. It's not pretty on the bottom side but it doesn't show when it's back on the bike. I have pictures I could post if you need them. Good luck!

Thank you very much .I kind of thought that was the way I would have to do it. So now I know what I have to do a little scary but I will give it a try. Thanks again Zoom.

Here's how to do it. This is not from a Nomad but they are put together the same way. I did not use the dremel, I just folded the edge back all the way around with a screwdriver. Do a little at the time. It may take you several times around it to get it folded back enough without hurting the trim ring. When I put it back together, I used a good towel for padding and took a small punch to gradually fold it back over tight. Be very careful not get your hand in the way (in front of the screwdriver). I learned the hard way. It's just like an ice pick going in with a dull tip. LOL.
