Does not sound the same?

Yesterday I felt up for a ride on my Nomad (ribs felt better :) )
As I was riding I noticed that the normal nice rumble of the "de-baffled" stock pipes was not the same.
Thinking it was a "warm up" thing I waited for a bit and really paid strong attention to the sound but honestly it never changed.
Now most might think that I am "just used to the sound" but since I did the de-baffle a few months ago the sound was always the same even after going to synthetic oil less than a month ago.
To date the only things I have done is:
De-baffle, Syn Oil Change.
Now not long ago (about a week or so) I removed the Hand Guards since it is warmer weather but I do not think this is a refraction issue.
I was riding without my helmet on the same roads and the weather has been in the high 50's and mid 60's.
I might try running some Sea Foam through the system but does anyone feel this is something I need to keep an eye on?
Hehe Sounds like an excuse for a new set of Cobras... :)

I don't know if it may be because you wasn't wearing your helmet, but as I wear different helmets (depending on time of the year), my bike does sound real different in each helmet.... just a thought.
But that is a good excuse for a new set of pipes though.

Somedays I think my bike sounds different as well. I attribute it to wind direction and the helmet Im wearing. My full face makes it sound different on certain days.

I think that your pipes are defective and the only cure is to buy new ones. Sorry to break it to you that way but it is always better to talk straight.

check the rear head pipe fer grins.. Run the engine in a no windy place if you can and with great care feel for any real hot breeze from under the cover of that read head pipe.. Hope you don't feel any breezes.. and don't get burned, because if you do it will really hurt.

My thumb is greenyellow now back at the hand web.

Keep your damn helmet on. It will make your bike sound better. Especially when your sliding down the road on your head. You will wake up to hear the bike another day instead of being dead.

You'd be surprised how much different it will sound by adding or subtracting deflectors.
Mine changes with the hand deflectors, changes again with the crash bar chaps. The larger lowers made the biggest difference.

And like was mentioned each helmet, or no helmet, is different. When I first got the helmet I wear most of the time, I thought I had a problem with the bike, the sound was so different.

But any reason for new pipes is a good one.

Just bs in. I like the way my V&H sound best after I get up high and my ears go dead.. It used to bug me, but now when I get back down low and swallow the shock of hearing the pipes is a hard hit.. I like the deep mellow sound only I can hear. Oh well..

Unfortunately, I think my bike sounds best in colder weather. I think that cold air in a warm engine makes a better sound. The unfortunate part is that's when I don't want to ride as much due to the chill. (I do it anyway)

Oddly enought air tempature and humidity play a huge part in how things sound, denser air (cold) better sound transmission, yup those hand gaurds, just like the windshield are reflecting sound waves back at you, so it will make a differnce.

With my new 3/4 helmet, have been wearing a 1/2, my bike sounds louder. So helmets do make a difference.
