Goodbye Nomad
Well, fellas, I had to think this one out, long and hard, but I realized yesterday that I really missed my GL1800 Gold Wing. I had it for 5 years and really had gotten attached to it. Everytime I went down to my dealers, I saw it sitting unsold on the showroom floor, and I would have some regret at having sold it.
Try as I did to like the Nomad enough to keep it for the long term, I just couldn't get there. I guess after over 20 years of riding big touring bikes, mostly Wings, that's where I belong. Still, I had fun getting to know the Nomad. It's a fun bike, is comfortable, handles very well and has lots of character, but in the end, it's just "not me," if you get my drift. So today I contacted my dealer and asked what the chances were of swapping back to my Wing. He said it would be no problem, so I went home, took of the radios, put the stock seat back on and rode it down to the dealer and came home with my Gold Wing. It just seemed "right." So, after a brief love affair with the Nomad, I came to realize that it was just that, a brief love affair that didn't pan out. OTOH, I've met some fine folks on this board. Ya'll are a great bunch and maybe some day we'll meet up somewhere on the road. No doubt I'll still lurk on this board and won't be a complete stranger. So now I have new (only used twice) Grasshopper backrest for sale as well as a practically new Mustang seat with rider's backrest. Also I have a set of "Desert Dogs" that will fit an '09/'10 Vulcan or Nomad with crashbars. I also have a solid front set of crash bar chaps that are one piece to fit a 1600 Vulcan/Nomad. These are for sale and I will make a killer deal for someone who wants or needs any of these things. I'll make a post in the "for sale" section. Oh yes, the NW rally in Kalispell--not forgetting that. Even though I no longer have the Nomad (and it will be missed) we haven't abandoned plans to go up there. So if two Gold Wingers aren't to be banned, we'd still love to be a part of the rally, as former Nomad people. Happy trails and roads. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Love what you ride and ride what you love.....all that matters is the world is best viewed from a seat with two wheels and preferably at a 35% angle!

Nobody has ever been banned from KawaNOW for getting a different bike. At most you will get changed to "enthusiast" status. Friends are friends no matter what they're riding. Don't hesitate to hang around and come to any of the rallies or meetups that you want.
Cheers, Bob

At least you gave the Nomad an honest effort and found out what you really like. Theres nothing wrong with that. Enjoy your time on the road!
On a side note; one of my co workers just sold his Wing and bought a Vespa scooter, He's taking a bit of ribbing over that move. ;)

Life's definitely too short to not enjoy what you have. Wings are great bikes, and I hope you put lots more miles on it.

Those "geezer glides" are awesome bikes, just not my cup of tea (yet). It's cool you were able to get yours back. Ride safe!

Goodbye Nomad
I just got home to Pocatello from Boise this evening. Had I'd known about your departure from the Nomad ranks I would have stopped to see you somehow to check out your items for sale. Oh well............
I understand about the Wing being the perfect fit for you. That is why they exist, along with Harleys, BMWs, Suzukis etc. Different strokes for different folks. Enjoy the Wing and ride safe.

Good luck with the Goldwing. They are great bikes and I owned a new one back in 1983 but the problem for me aT 5' 8" they just got a little too big for me. They are smooth and I never had an engine problem.
