Rotella T6 full synthetic
Oh no Mr. Bill, please don't hurt me for posting yet another oil thread But...... is anyone using it. Shell's site says that both the conventional 15/40 and the new T6 are JASO MA compliant. I ride in northern Ontario so temps rarely get above 80F here in the summer is 5w 40 safe to use?

Rotella T6 full synthetic
Hello,
This is an interesting read as well. http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html I installed Rotella 5W-40 synthetic when I winterized my bike and have yet to get my bike back on the road yet but will be soon as spring is here now. I also chose to run the Purolator Pure One long filter as well, make sure you zip tie the rear brake line so it does not rub against the textured finish of this filter, I covered it with a small section of plastic split wire loom and then zip tied it, the T6 is the newest formulation for this oil, info is posted on it on the thread you started. Hope this helps. Ray |

Rotella T6 full synthetic
I asked this in another thread and DIDN'T GET AN ANSWER.
Is this oil replacing the Rotella T oil and if so, is it safe to use in my bike. I am using Rotella T now. Does the T6 have any kind of additives that will be harmful to the clutch ???

I think it does replace their previous formulation. This is what they have posted:
UNSURPASSED SHEAR STABILITY Shell Rotella® T6 5W-40 provides unsurpassed protection against shear-stability degradation, compared to the leading competitive API CJ-4 5W-40 products. An extremely shear-stable product helps maintain consistent viscosity and oil pressure in the engine. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I use Rotella T 5W-40 in all my engines, year round. The bike, car, lawn tractor, snow blower, generator.
No problems, everything runs GREAT!

Naw just sick of another oil thread when there is 3, and then there will be more, and besides I hadda scalp the power window motor outta the van door and fix it. No Fun. I probably need to appolgize to bluesman.
There are 2 answers I give on oil these days, 1 is NO oil with EC inside the circle on a bottle, which means 'Engery Conserving' , and the other is do your research. Something called Royal Purple is getting the rave reviews these days, but any name brand modern full syn is plenty fine, at the rate we change oil. Most here seem to do that at 3,000/3,500 miles, not sure what that is in klicks. At the rate oil companies change blends it is hard to say whats what from one week to the next. I was running mobil 1 for cars with no EC label and now i can't find it, and run there V Twin oil because I can find that. I run dino oils in my anitique cars and trucks, the volvo gets Castrol the van gets Rotilia the Hun, and the chevy gets which ever just got 3,000 miles.

Thanks for the info guys and I am sorry for yet another "oil thread" I read some posts from way back on the pro boards but couldn't find anything on the new T6 - hence my ?'s.
I was more concerned with the 5W 40 mix as most of you are running 15/40 or 20/50. The book says 10/40 but in a thread on oil I read somewhere is stated that 10/40 should not be used in wet clutch applications because the oil breaks down - aka shear factor. Who knows - I guess it doesn't matter what proper oil you use as long as it's changed frequently and is not EC and causes clutch slippage. Bluesman Sault Ste Marie Ontario Canada |

The Rotella T6 Synthetic 5w40 is marked on the jug as meeting the JASO MA Motorcycle spec. I'd go for it. (actually I just did today) WalMart had the new stuff, Advance Auto Parts had the old non JASO MA jugs.
